    Preferences menu, then select Ask for a destination. Device not starting In rare cases, your TomTom GO navigation device may not start correctly or may stop responding to your taps. First, check that the battery is properly charged. To charge the battery, con- nect your device to the car charger.

    Active Dock Use the Active Dock to install your TomTom GO inside your car. Make sure that both the Active Dock and your windscreen are clean and dry before you attach the holder. Place the Active Dock so that it does not interfere with your view of the road or of any of the controls in your car.

    You can attach the dock to the windscreen, side window or use a Dashboard Mount Disk to attach the dock to your dashboard.     Making your first journey Planning a route with your TomTom GO navigation device is easy. To plan a Making your first journey route, follow the steps below. Important: For safety reasons, you should always plan a route before you start your journey.

    Every time your TomTom GO starts, you are asked if you want to plan a route. If you tap Cancel, you are shown the Main Menu. Arrival times When you plan a route, your TomTom GO asks you if you need to arrive at a particular time. Tap YES to enter a preferred arrival time.
  • Page 10 Tap Status bar preferences in the Preferences menu, to enable or disable arrival time notifications. Select the required options on the first menu screen and then tap Done.     You can also compare journey times for the same route at different times of the day or on different days of the week. Your TomTom GO uses IQ Routes when planning a route. IQ Routes calculates routes based on the real aver- age speeds measured on roads.

  • Page 15 When you say the city name, you are then shown a list of six names that match what you said. Your GO tells you the name at the top of the list. If the name you hear is cor- rect, then say, "Done" or "OK" or "Yes" or "One" or tap on the name. If the city name you hear is not correct, but the name appears in the list, then say the number next to the correct name or tap on the correct name.
  • Page 16 Tip: If you say, "Back" when there are no numbers shown on the screen, then your GO will return you to the previous screen. When the number is shown correctly say, "Done" or "OK." Alternatively, enter the number by tapping the screen. To select a crossroads as the location, say, "Crossing".
