AF-assist
Beam
• The AF-assist beam will sometimes emit
when the shutter button is pressed
halfway to assist focusing in certain
conditions, i.e. dark conditions.
The AF-assist beam can be turned off
(p. 67).
For example, if animals are your subject,
turn off the beam when shooting in the
dark to avoid startling them.
However, please keep in mind the
following facts.
• If the AF-assist beam is turned off, it
may become more difficult for the
camera to focus in dark conditions.
• The red-eye reduction lamp may emit
when you press the shutter button
halfway even if the AF-assist beam is
turned off.
In order to prevent any lamp from
emitting before the flash fires, set both
the red-eye reduction function and the
AF-assist beam to [Off] in the Shooting
menu.
