Removethehex bolts securingthe transmissiondrivepulley,then
removethe pulleyalongwith the two belts. See Figure27.
7.
Replacetheold beltswith the new beltsin the sameorder they
wereremoved.The longerbelt (1916658) belongscloserto the
engine,with the shorterbelt (1916657) p ositionedcloser to the
tines.
8.
Reinstallthe transmission drive pulleywith the new belts.
9.
Reassemble the tiller in the reverseorder in whichit was disas-
sembled.
IMPORTANT: W henreinstallingthe beltcover,be sureto engage
the bail and hold it so that the drivebelt is tight beforeattemptingto
reinstallthe beltcover.This will enablethe beltto fall under thebelt
keepingmechanismbuiltintothe beltcover.Failureto do so could
damagethe beltand/or belt cover.

TINES
Thetines will wearwith useand shouldbe inspectedat the beginning
of eachtilling seasonand after every30 operatinghours.Thetines
can be replaced.Refertothe PartsList sectionof this manualfor part
numbers.
Tine inspection
With use,the tines will becomeshorter,narrowerand pointed.Badly
worntines will resultin a lossof tilling depth,and reducedeffective-
ness whenchoppingup and turningunderorganicmatter.
Removing/Installing
a Tine Assembly
1.
Removethefine shieldend coversand sideshieldsby removing
the threewingnuts on each sidethat securethem.
2.
A fineassemblyconsistsof a left hand fineand a righthandtine.
NOTE:Thefine assemblymovesin a counter-rotating motionwith
the sharpedgesof the tines positionedto enterthe soil firstwhen
counter-rotating. Notethis positionof thetines for reinstallation of the
newtine assemblies.

Toremovea tine assembly,simplyremovethe cotterpin securing
the clevispin.See Figure28.
4.
Removetheclevispin and slidethe assemblyto the outsideof
the unitand off of the tine shaft.
5.
Beforereinstalling the fineassembly,inspect t he fine shaftfor
rust, roughspotsor burrs.Lightlyfile or sand,as needed.Applya
thincoat of greaseto the shaft.
6.
Installeachfineassemblyso that thecutting (sharp)edge of the
tines willenterthe soil firstwhenthe tiller movesforward.Keep
in mindthat thesetines are counter-rotating, so securethe fine
assemblyto the fine shaftusingthe clevispin and cotterpin.
