BREAK-IN
The first monthis the mostimportantin the life ofyour vehicle. Properoperation
duringthis break-inperiodwill behelpfulfor assuringmaximumlife and performance
of yournewvehicle. Thefollowing guidelinesexplainproperbreak-inprocedures.
MaximumThrottleOpeningRecommendation
Duringthefirst 10 hoursof operation,Youshouldalwaysuselessthan 1/2 throttle
opening.
Varythe EngineRotatingSpeed
Varythe enginerotatingspeedduringthe break-inperiod. Thisallowsthe partsto
"load" and then "unload" (allowingthe partsto cool). Althoughit isessentialto place
somestresson the enginecomponents during break-in,you mustbe carefulnot to
loadthe enginetoo much.
AvoidConstantLow RotatingSpeed
Operatingtheengineat constantlow rotatingspeed(lightload)can causepartsto
glazeand notseal properly.Allow theengineto accelerate freely withoutexceeding
the maximum throttlelimit.
Allowthe EngineOil to CirculateBeforeRiding
Allowa few minutesof idlingtime afterwarmor coldenginestarting. Thisallowsthe
lubricating oil to reachall criticalenginecomponents.
ObserveYourInitialand MostCriticalService
The initialservice(break-inmaintenance) i s the mostimportantservicethatyour
vehiclewill receive. Observing a properbreak-in operation,will helpengine
components sealproperly.Maintenance requiredas partof the initialserviceincludes
properadjustments, t ighteningof all bolts& nuts,and replacement of dirtyoil. Timely
performance of thisservicewill helpyou getthe bestservicelife and performance of
theengine.
