AND OIL FILL-UP

FirstTime Use
1.
Removeoil fill dipstick.
2.
With the tilleron levelground,usea funnelto emptyentire
contentsofoil bottle providedintothe engine.
3.
Replaceoil fill dipstickand tighten.
Subsequent Uses
Only usehigh qualitydetergentoil ratedwith APIserviceclassification
SF,SG, SH, SJor higher.Selectthe oil's SAEviscositygrade accord-
ing to the expectedoperatingtemperature. F ollowthe chart below.
Alcoholblendedfuels (calledgasoholor usingethanolor methanol)
canattract moisturewhich leadsto separation and formationof acids
duringstorage.Acidicgas can damagethe fuel systemof an engine
whilein storage.
Toavoidengineproblems,the fuel systemshouldbe emptied
beforestoragefor 30 days or longer.Drainthegas tank,start the
engineand let it run untilthe gastank, fuellinesand carburetor are
empty.Usefresh fuel next season.See STORAGE Instructionsfor
additionalinformation.

Althoughmulti-viscosity oils (5W30, 10W30, e tc.)improvestarting
in coldweather,theywill result inincreasedoil consumption when
usedabove32°RCheckyourengineoil levelmorefrequentlyto avoid
possibleenginedamagefrom runninglowon oil.
1.
Checkthe oil levelmakingcertain notto rubthe dipstickalong the
inside walls of theoil fill tube. Thiswould resultin a false dipstick
reading.Wipedipstickcleanwith cloth. Replacedipstickinto
the oil filler neck,but do not screwitin.Removeand checkoil
level. Refillto FULLmark on dipstick,if necessary.Capacityis
approximately 20 oz. Overfillingwill causethe engineto smoke
profuselyand will resultin poorengine performance.

Replaceoil fill dipstickand tighten.
3.
Keepoil levelat FULL.Runningthe enginewith too little oil can
result in permanentenginedamage.

extremely
extreme
when
Gasolineis
flammableand the vaporsare explosive.Neverfuelmachineindoors
or whilethe engineis hotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,cigars,
pipes,and othersourcesof ignition.
Gasoline
1.
Removefuelcap from thefuel tank.
2.
Make surethecontainerfromwhich youwill pour the gasolineis
cleanand freefrom rust or foreignparticles.Neveruse gasoline
that may be stale from long periodsof storagein its container.
Gasolinethat has beensittingfor any periodlongerthan four
weeksshouldbe consideredstale.
3.
Fill fueltank with clean, fresh,unleadedregulargasolineonly. Do
not usegasolinecontainingMETHANOL.Replacefuelcap.
Neveruseengineor carburetorcleanerproductsin the fueltank or
permanentdamagemayoccur.
NOTE:Checkthe fuellevelperiodicallyto avoid runningout of
gasolinewhileoperatingthe tiller.
TO START ENGINE
1.
Attachspark plugwire and rubberbootto sparkplug.
2.
Filltank to no morethan 1/2inch belowbottomof filler neckto
providespacefor fuelexpansion.
3.
Makesurethe tineclutchcontrol is disengaged.
4.
Turnthe fuelshut-offvalve to the ONposition.
5.
Movethechoke leveron the engineto CHOKEI'_1 position.(A
warm enginemay not requirechoking.)See Figure13.
6.
Movethrottlecontrolto START/RUN (Rabbit)_
position.See

7.
Standingon the sideof the unit, graspstarterhandleand pull
ropeout untilyou feela drag.
8.
Pullthe rope with a rapid,continuous, f ull arm stroke.Keepa firm
grip on the starterhandle.Letthe roperewindslowly.
