Chapter 2. Installing options This chapter provides basic instructions for installing hardware options in the server. These instructions are intended for users who are experienced with setting up IBM server hardware. If you need more detailed instructions, see the User’s Guide on the IBM System x Documentation CD.
Always use an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system when working inside the server with the power on. v Handle the device carefully, holding it by its edges or its frame. IBM System x3550 Type 7978: Installation Guide...
v Do not touch solder joints, pins, or exposed circuitry. v Do not leave the device where others can handle and damage it. v While the device is still in its static-protective package, touch it to an unpainted metal surface on the outside of the server for at least 2 seconds. This drains static electricity from the package and from your body.
Lift the baffle up, making sure that the pins come out of the holes on the system board. Attention: For proper cooling and airflow, replace the air baffle before you turn on the server. Operating the server with the air baffle removed might damage server components. IBM System x3550 Type 7978: Installation Guide...
The following notes describe the type of hard disk drives that the server supports and other information that you must consider when installing a hard disk drive. For a list of supported hard disk drives, see http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/ serverproven/compat/us/. The server supports one of the following hard disk drive configurations: v Servers with four hot-swap bays support 2.5-inch hot-swap SAS hard disk drives.
