6. SOFTWARE REFERENCE

6.1 Winbond Smart Manager

The Winbond Smart Manager is a clever utility that helps you to secure
your PC using a Read2-IN-01 Smart Card Reader (see page 8) along
with a Smart Card containing a mini-chip insert, like a a GSM cell phone
SIM card. Once the Smart Card reader is configured, the log on software
waits for you to insert the Smart Card. You can set up the Smart Manager
utility for use during boot up only, or in an "always on" security mode.
6.1.1 Setting Up Smart Manager
Connect the Smart Card Reader to the CUSL2-C-BP; (refer to Section 3,
Hardware Setup for the connector location.) Boot up the PC and enter
BIOS (press <del>) to change the configuration to accept installation of
Smart Card hardware: in the Advanced BIOS menu select the I/O Device
Configuration sub-menu, go to UART2 and select Smart Card Read:
After your PC boots up, install new system drivers for all new plug-and-
play devices except for the Smart Card Reader. Then browse the Support
CD ROM and locate the Smart Card folder; three sub-folders,
Components, Driver and App contain the installation files below.
NOTE: Items 1, 2, 3 below are compatible with Windows 98, ME and
2000; and these components may be used for all Smart Card programs.
The Windbond Smart Manager application is compatible with Windows
98 and ME only. Do not install the above drivers or applications
unless you install a Smart Card reader.
Software installation must follow in this order:
1. Smart Card Library file: Smclib.exe (Components folder)
2. Base Components file: Scbase.exe (Components folder)
Browse the support CD and double click on Smclib.exe and
Scbase.exe are self-installing files.
3. Card Reader Drivers: Wbscr.inf and Wbscr.sys (Drivers folder)
On your Windows desktop, click on My Computer, select
Control Panel and then the Add Hardware command; browse
the CD for the Drivers folder and install the driver .inf file.
Restart the PC.
4. Winbond Smart Manager software: Setup.exe (App folder)
Browse the support CD and double click on Setup.exe. Restart.
