Unlike previous Intel chipsets, the new ICH8 supports only SATA storage devices. To support older IDE HDD or optical
drives, this mainboard is designed with onboard SATA-to-IDE convertor, the SiI3811A.
To use EZ-IDE:
1. First, set the jumpers on IDE drives to "Master mode".
2. From above, connect IDE drive to IDE-A.
3. Connect any of SATA1 - SATA4 to SP-A using the bundled EZ-IDE cable, or any ordinary SATA cable.
(Optional : Connect to SP-B if using IDE-B).
4. Enter BIOS setup, ensure SATA mode is set to "Combined mode".
5. Save changes and exit. Installation is now complete.
Benefits of EZ-IDE:
- Simple installation requiring no software driver.
- Works with any O/S since no software is required.
- Works with any old IDE devices.
- Ideal for installing O/S on new computer, quick and hassle-free.
Some notes on usage:
- Each IDE port supports only 1 Master device, no Slave devices are supported.
- Disconnect the EZ-IDE bridge cable if no IDE devices are present on IDE-A/B.
- Optional: SATA5 - SATA6 does not support bootable drives.
