Apex215
Dual Element Ribbon Microphone

The Microphone

The Apex215 Dual Element Ribbon Microphone delivers much higher sensitivity
with a much greater signal to noise ration than standard single element ribbon
designs. Like all ribbon microphones, the Apex215 does not require phantom
power to operate. Its entirely passive design delivers stunning realism without
introducing additional noise or circuit distortion to the signal path.
The asymmetrical figure-8 pickup pattern has an extended sweet spot on the rear
face of the microphone allowing the recording to accurately reproduce the
natural space and ambient reverberation of a good sounding live room. The
Apex215 is an ideal microphone for use on any number of sources including
acoustic guitars, strings, woodwinds and brass instruments (solo or section),
acoustic pianos (including grand pianos) and of course, critical solo vocals, har-
mony vocals and choirs.
Ribbon microphones are sensitive to sudden transients, and care should be
taken to protect the ribbon elements from sudden shocks and pops. By design,
ribbon elements can handle extremely high sustained Sound Pressure Levels
(SPL), in the case of the Apex215, as high as 137dB. This makes the Apex215
an great option for close miking guitar amps or for use over drum kits & percus-
sion instruments where stunning realism and a natural space recording quality is
required in the mix.
The proprietary shockmount assembly (included with the Apex215) should
always be used with the microphone to protect the fragile dual ribbon elements
during use and to isolate the mic from room noise.

Care and Feeding of your Ribbon Microphone

All ribbon microphones require special care and careful handling or they can be
seriously damaged. In order to ensure long life for your APEX215 dual ribbon
microphone, please always do the following:
1. Always protect your APEX215 from any impact including dropping the mic,
jarring or shaking the microphone during transit. Always handle Apex215 with
complete care and store the microphone in the vertical (upright) position when not
in use. The ribbon elements used in this microphone can 'sag' if it is stored
horizontally for long periods of time. This 'sag' will degrade the microphone's
overall performance, output and tone.

2. Never blow into your APEX215 or tap on the microphone body. Protect
the microphone from any sudden or strong blasts of air movement from ever
reaching your microphone, as it can tear and / or irreparably damage the fragile
ribbon elements. When using an Apex215, it may be advisable to use a pop
filter, like the optional Apex MWS-56dlx to protect the ribbon from percussive
events and excessive moisture.
3. It is never a good idea to apply any phantom power to your Apex215. Although
there is a protection circuit in series with the microphone's XLR input, accidents
can happen. If voltage does make it to the microphone element, it could irrepara-
bly damage the ribbon elements.
The outer shell of your mic can be cleaned with a soft damp cloth. Do not use
harsh detergents, solvents, or abrasive materials. Never immerse any micro-
phone in water.
