Chapter 3.
Directory Server Object Class
Reference
This chapter contains an alphabetical list of the object classes accepted by the default schema.
It gives a definition of each object class and lists its required and allowed attributes. The object
classes listed in this chapter are available to support entry information in the Red Hat Directory Server
(Directory Server). Object classes that are used by the Directory Server for internal operations are
not documented in this Schema Guide; instead, refer to the Red Hat Directory Server Configuration,
Command, and File Reference. Replication and synchronization object classes are listed in
Operational Attributes and Object Classes
The required attributes listed for an object class must be present in the entry when that object class is
added to the directory's ldif file. If an object class has a superior object class, both of these object
classes with all required attributes must be present in the entry. If required attributes are not listed in
the ldif file, than the server will not restart.
NOTE
The LDAP RFCs and X.500 standards allow for an object class to have more than one
superior object class. This behavior is not currently supported by Directory Server.
This chapter contains information about object classes that describe directory entries, like users,
groups, and equipment. This intent — describing directory data — also covers some schema elements
that are used to organize data in the directory, like views and roles.
However, this object class reference does not cover core schema used to configure the Directory
Server itself. The directory service is also configured as directory entries within the cn=config
subtree. For descriptions of those configuration attributes, see the Configuration, Command, and File
