RC 8530 Universal Remote Control
This RC 8530 Universal remote control is designed to operate the
major functions of your television (TV).
The RC 8530 is pre-programmed in the factory. By simply ente-
ring the correct code for your television, the RC 8530 is ready for
use. A CODE LIST is included in this user's manual (See page 22).
FUNCTIONAL OVERVIEW
© CH+:
Changes to the next programme on your TV.
© CH-:
Changes to the previous programme on your TV.
© VOL+: Turns up the sound volume of your TV.
© VOL-:
Turns down the sound volume of your TV.
© MUTE: Turns the sound of your TV on and off.
© PWR:
Turns your TV on and off.
© Transmission indicator - Lights up during signal
transmission when a key is pressed.
HOW TO INSTALL BATTERIES
The RC 8530 requires 4 fresh AAA-size (LR03) batteries (alkaline
recommended):-
1. Remove the battery cover on the back of the RC 8530.
2. Insert the batteries according to the +/- indicators in the
battery compartment.
3. Push the battery cover back in place.
HOW TO SET UP THE RC 8530 (PRE-PROGRAMMED BRAND CODES)
Your RC 8530 is factory pre-coded to operate Philips' TV. You
may also set up the RC 8530 to operate other TV brands by code
entering or searching.

7. Find the code for your brand in the Code List. If there is more
than one code listed under the brand, try the first code using
the following instructions.
2. Hold down both 'CH+' and 'VOL-' on the RC 8530 simultane-
ously until the indicator lights.
3. Use the function keys to erjter tfie 5—digit code.
CH+ = 1
'
VOL+ = 3
CH- = 2
VOL- = 4
eg. '12341' = 'CH+' - 'CH-' - 'VOL+'-
The indicator should stop lighting immediately.
If the indicator flashes twice during the above procedures, a
wrong code has been entered. You must enter the code again
before the LED © turns off.
Switch on your TV, and try the function keys on the RC 8530. If
your TV responds correctly, you have entered the right code. If
not, repeat the above setup instructions with the rest of the avai-
lable codes until your TV responds correctly.
Note:
-
If you have mistakenly pressed the 'PWR' key © before ente-
ring the 5—digit code, press 'CH+' © and 'VOL-' © together
again and proceed with step 1.

If you cannot find a correct code for your television, see 'Set
up by SEARCH THROUGH THE LIBRARY' section.
Set up by SEARCH THROUGH THE LIBRARY
If you cannot identify a correct Code for your television from the
Code List, try the code search method:-
Before you start searching, please make sure your TV is
turned on.
1. Hold down both 'CH+' © and 'VOL-' © on the RC 8530
simultaneously until the indicator lights.
2. To search:-
Aim the RC 8530 at your TV, press the 'PWR' © key
repeatedly and slowly until your TV switches off.
3. Once your TV has been turned OFF, immediately press 'CH+'
© and 'VOL-' © again to lock in the code. The indicator
should stop lighting.
Note:
-
Each time you press the 'PWR' key ©, the RC 8530 will shift
to the next code and try to switch off your TV.
If you pressed 'PWR' © after your TV switched off, turn on
your TV again immediately. Before the indicator stops ligh-
ting, press 'MUTE' © on the RC 8530 to shift backward.

It may take around 2 minutes to search through the complete
library. You should maintain at least a one-second time inter-
val between 2 pressings of the 'PWR' key ©.

If the indicator flashes twice after you press the 'PWR' key
©, you are at the last code of the library. Press 'CH+' © and
'VOL-' © again to resume the RC 8530 and repeat carefully
the above procedures to search again.
OPERATING THE RC 8530
Once you have set up the RC 8530 for your TV, it works like your
original remote control. To operate, just aim it at your TV and
select the desired function by pressing a corresponding key on
the RC 8530.
MAINTENANCE
1. Do not expose the RC 8530 to dust, strong sunlight, humidity,
high temperature, or mechanical shock.
2. Do not use old and new batteries together.

3. Do not disassemble your RC 8530, it contains no
user-serviceable parts.
