Positioning the Loudspeaker

In your car there are many locations to install Rainbow loudspeakers. However you should pay attention to the following facts: Woofers need a certain volume for the acoustic reproduction. A rear windshield deck with a large boot or doors with a large insulating air cushion are ideal. The necessary minimum volume is also guaranteed if they are installed in locations in the dashboard or the side panels of the rear package shelf intended for this purpose.

Please check the suitability of the installation places before you start installation. Don't cut any of the car's structural frame. Pay attention to the mechanism of the windows and door handles. If installed in the rear, be sure that the filler neck and the petrol tank are not damaged. You must always pay attention to cables and wires that are run hidden in your car. Don't cut or damage them. The loudspeaker grilles can help you to find a suitable installation place by using them as templates on the doors or the rear windshield deck. If you have experience with electrical and mechanical procedures, you can install Rainbow loudspeakers on your own.

For acoustic reasons the components should be arranged as close together as possible. If the distance between tweeter and woofer is too large, an acoustic hole is the result which leads to a bad sound reproduction.

Door Installation

To get a good front-staging the tweeter mustn't be placed too low in your car. Suitable installation places are the mirror triangle and the upper part of the door. To get a good woofer performance or kickbass, the whole door volume must be reinforced. Cut the interior foil of the door covering around the installation place of the woofer and fasten it in order to prevent its vibration. It is also very important that the area around the woofer is sealed in order to avoid acoustic short circuits.

The sound deadening of the door panel can help to improve the sound. Use noise-damping material. Should the door covering tend to vibrate it must be reinforced. If this is not possible you can achieve noise rejection by using foamed material.

Installation on Rear Windshield Deck

Place the tweeter as close to the woofer as possible. Keep distance to rear window and headrests. The rear window reflects and increases the reproduction of trebles (shrill). Arrange the loudspeakers centred between rear window and headrests to the very right and left side. This is important for the stereophony. Should the rear windshield deck vibrates it must be reinforced or sound deadned.

Only use the provided assembly-kit to install the tweeter.

Cable Preparation

Shorten tweeter cable (e.g., AIV Silverado with at least 1 mm² cross section) to the appropriate length and strip both ends. Insert the red conduit cover (+) over the appropriately marked conductor and the black cover (-) over the remaining conductor. Solder one end of the stripped conductor to the cable end sleeve. Provide cable end sleeves at the other end of the cable as well as at the short connection cables of the tweeters.

warning Note: Attach tweeter only over the prepared connection cables, preferably with suitable plug contacts. Soldering of the cables directly to the tweeter is not possible. The tweeter can be severely damaged by the soldering procedure.

Shorten woofer cable (e.g., AIV Triple Mix with at least 2.5 mm² cross section) to the necessary length to run from the woofer to the screw connections of the crossover and strip at both ends. Insert the red conduit cover (+) over the appropriately marked conductor and the black cover (-) over the remaining conductor. Equip both ends of cables with conduit covers provided and solder cable end sleeves to one end and the u-shaped metal jacket to the other end.

warning Note: If cables with a larger cross sections than 2.5 mm² are being used for the installation, they must be provided with the appropriate u-shaped metal jackets according to DIN 46244. Cables should not be soldered at the screw connections. The heat from soldering causes the screw connections to move out of position, making misfires caused by poor contact unavoidable.

In general, the loudspeaker cables should be kept as short as possible and run in such a way that they are kept separate from the auto's electrical system, thereby preventing distortion caused from the generator and electrical wiring. The loudspeaker cables can also be twisted together to help prevent distortion. Rolling up excess loudspeaker cable length is not helpful, as it merely increases chances of distortion.

Connecting and Setup Crossover

With all component systems, the tweeter range has been provided with a thermal protection device in the crossover. This added measure protects the high-quality tweeter against overly high performance levels. However, with extremely high performance levels, the thermal protection device will shut down the tweeter to a low level. Once reduced the power to a normal level the thermal protection device will cool down and will release tweeter from protection status after a few minutes.

If the woofer and tweeter are placed very closely together, the polarity of the tweeters as indicated at the crossover should be maintained.
⇒ Optimal tuning. In mechanical situations where the woofer and tweeter are placed very far apart, it is recommended that the polarity of the tweeters be turned approximately 180°. In addition, clamp the tweeter cable with red conduit cover sleeve from the positive terminal of the crossover and fasten on the minus connection. Afterwards take the tweeter cable with the black conduit sleeve from the minus connection and fasten to the positive terminal. A more enclosed sound can be achieved by this measure.

warning ATTENTION! Danger of short circuit. The unused tweeter cable of the tweeter crossover must be insulated by insulating tape against short circuit resulting otherwise in destruction of the tweeter crossover.

Maintenance

The components should be cleaned at regular intervals as the conditions in motor vehicles rapidly cause soiling and a deterioration of the material. Use a soft, moist cloth and wipe dry. Do not use any solvents or organic detergents.

Important Safety Instructions

warning Please read carefully before you start installation!

Please read all warnings found in this manual. They inform you of the potential danger of personal injury or damage to property.

Do not touch the connectors when the system is running!

warning Attention: Important Operational Information. Please Read Before Installation.

The loudspeakers may only be operated with the indicated nominal power and only with the enclosed crossovers or with the recommended high-pass and low-pass frequencies and slopes

Any operation without the enclosed crossovers or with frequencies and slops other than the recommended may cause damage to the loudspeakers

Exchanging the "woofer" and "tweeter" terminals on the crossover, may destroy tweeters immediately

Do not open the the tweeter housing as this may destroy the tweeter

When connecting loudspeakers, crossovers, and amplifiers ensure polarity is the same throughout.

Exchanging of the polarity produces an unnatural sound that lacks in bass power

For reasons of technical safety, use only the enclosed screws to fasten the loudspeakers. If you fasten them with any other materials, we do not accept any liability.
