The installation must be carried out by expert
personnel, that is, a person with education or
experience to identify hazards and take appropriate
actions to reduce the risk of injury to themselves and others.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The NFSTI-OPT is an intelligent plug-in type self testing smoke sensor that combines
a photoelectric sensing chamber with addressable communications. The sensor is
designed for open area protection and must only be connected to control panels that
use a compatible proprietary communication protocol for monitoring and control. Two
LEDs on each sensor provide a local 360° visible indication, the operation of the
optional accessory wired to the standard base terminals dependent on panel.
The NFSTI-OPT sensor includes an isolator that can be selected or deselected
according to the wiring. Where the isolator is to be used, check the panel
documentation for details of how many isolators can be used on a loop.
This detector works in Self Test Mode only when connected to a loop circuit of a
compatible panel, such as the Notifier INSPIRE Panel.

WIRING GUIDE
Refer to the installation instructions supplied with the plug-in sensor bases for wiring
details. All bases are provided with terminals for power and an optional Remote
Indicator.
Note 1: All wiring must conform to applicable local and national codes and regulations.
Note 2: Verify that all sensor bases are installed and that polarity of the wiring is
65°C
correct at each base.
Disconnect loop power before installing sensors.
Notify proper authorities.
SENSOR INSTALLATION

X 1
2. Insert the sensor into the base and rotate it clockwise until it locks into place.
3. After all the sensors have been installed, apply power to the system.
4. Test the sensor as described under TESTING.
5. Reset the sensor by communication command from the panel.
Tamper-Resistance
These sensors include a feature that, when activated, prevents removal of the sensor
from the base without the use of a tool. Refer to the installation instructions for the
sensor base for details of how to use this feature.
Dust covers help to protect units during shipping and
when first installed. They are not intended to provide
protection against airborne dust particles therefore
sensors should be removed before construction, major re-
decoration or other dust producing work is started. Dust covers
must be removed before system can be made operational. The
self test function of your Notifier system can determine that
there is no potential obstruction to smoke entry, including
cases where the detector dust cover has not been removed.
TESTING
Sensors must be tested after installation and following periodic maintenance. If you
need to use a non-self-test method, notify the proper authorities the system will
temporarily be in maintenance mode.
The Self Test method improves safety by permitting the fire system to remain active
whilst testing is in progress. The process will delay any alarm input signal from input
modules and other sensors (not undergoing Self-Test) by a maximum of 30 seconds.
Multiple loops and panels may be tested simultaneously.
Note however that it may be necessary to disable the zone or system undergoing
maintenance to prevent unwanted alarms when External smoke, direct heat or
magnet methods are being used.
Test the sensors as follows:
A. Functional and smoke-entry tests
The Notifier system with Self-Test sensors can carry out both functional tests and
smoke entry tests using the Self-Test function. The Self-Test sensor generates a
controlled amount of smoke which is directed into the sensing chamber, testing the
optical chamber's response to real smoke. It then determines whether the smoke
entry points are not compromised by ensuring that the smoke evacuates the chamber.
1. Use the associated App and Gateway (see Connected Life Safety Services guides).
2. Initiate self-test from App.

WARNING
1. S et the sensor address (see figure 1) by
turning the two rotary switches on the
underside of the sensor, selecting a
number between 01 and 159. (Note: The
number of addresses available will be
dependent on panel capability, check
the panel documentation for information
on this). Record the address on the label
attached to the base.
