Safety notices
The hoist must only be operated by competent personnel authorised by their employer, they must be familiar with these
instructions and the hoist, and have sufficient experience and training.
The carriage of persons in this goods only hoist is forbidden
The base of the hoist should be barriered to prevent persons coming into contact with a moving hoist or accessing the area under
an elevated hoist. A safe distance of 50cm must be maintained around all moving parts.
The hoist must be operated from outside this danger zone and the operator must always be able to see the full path of travel of
the hoist.
When not in use the hoist should be secured against unauthorised use, by isolating the power and/or removing the controller.
The hoist should be left at ground level when not in use and must be left at ground level at the end of the shift.
The hoist should not be left unattended with an elevated load
Operation must cease and the platform be returned to ground level if the wind speed exceeds 72km/h or temperatures fall below
-20 degrees.
Only use a hoist which has been daily checked and has been inspected under LOLER within the time limit as specified in the
report of thorough examination.
Operators must not alter, remove, override or bypass and safety devices/limit switches.
Never exceed the Safe Working Load as stated on the Report of thorough examination.
Never use a hoist which is damaged or faulty, report it immediately for repair.
Loads must be secured within the hoist cage so they cannot slip, slide or fall.
Safety gates must be installed at each landing level where unloading/loading is required.
If the red light shows on the cage control panel then the hoist is overloaded and will not run until weight is removed.
Pre-use checks
Before starting work the following checks must be carried out with an unloaded hoist.
Check that here is current LOLER ROTELE and the daily/weekly checks have been completed
Check the full length of the hoist travel is clear of obstructions.
Push the emergency stop button and check that the hoist will not run by pushing the up and down buttons. Release the
emergency stop button.
Operate the hoist up and down a short distance, within 2m of the ground using the control button, hoist should stop immediately
when the button is released.
Open the loading ramp fully and check the hoist does not run up or down. Close the loading ramp fully.
Travel the hoist along the full length of travel, ensuring it stops at the landing level limits. (Automatic mode)
If the hoist does not pass these checks do not use, report for repair.
