2. Technical Explanation Insertion Unit Basic Construction ■ Electric Circuit Overview The operation sequence of this unit is controlled by the inserter/folder controller PCB. The inserter/folder controller PCB incorporates a CPU. The CPU interprets the signals from sensors and the signals from the host machine to output the signals for driving DC loads such as motors and solenoids at the predetermined timings.
2. Technical Explanation Basic Operation This unit supports the following two functions. 1. Insertion Function This function is used to feed paper from the inserter tray to the finisher to add the front cover, back cover, and interleaving paper to the sheets delivered from to the host machine. When the sheets are saddle-stitched for face-up delivery, the sheets are reversed in the reversing unit.
Page 22
2. Technical Explanation ■ Inserter's Straight Paper Feed Sequence This section explains the operation performed when two document sheets are fed from the inserter paper feed unit. 1. Separate Feed - The tray lift motor (M2) turns in the reverse direction to raise the paper feed tray. - When turning on of the paper feed sensor (S3) is detected, the tray lift motor stops.
Page 23
2. Technical Explanation 3. Feeding the First Sheet to the Horizontal Feed Section - The straight path feed motor (M4) turns in the reverse direction and the reverse unit motor (M3) also turns in the reverse direction to feed the document sheet to the horizontal feed section.
Page 24
2. Technical Explanation 5. Feeding the Second Sheet to the Standby Position - The paper feed motor (M1) turns in the normal direction and the reverse unit motor (M3) turns in the reverse direction to feed the document sheet to the standby position. - When turning off of the paper set sensor (S6) is detected, the tray lift motor (M2) turns in the normal direction to lower the paper feed tray.
Page 25
2. Technical Explanation 1. Separate Feed - The tray lift motor (M2) turns in the reverse direction to raise the paper feed tray. - When turning on of the paper feed sensor (S3) is detected, the tray lift motor stops. - The paper feed motor (M1) turns in the reverse direction to start separating the document sheets on the tray.
Page 26
2. Technical Explanation 3. Feeding the First Sheet to the Standby Position - The reverse unit motor (M3) turns in the reverse direction to feed the document sheet to the standby position. - When the sheet has been fed by the specified distance since detection of turning on of the reverse timing sensor (S11), the reverse unit motor stops.
Page 27
2. Technical Explanation 6. Feeding the Second Sheet with it Reversed - The paper feed motor (M1) turns in the normal direction and the reverse unit motor (M3) also turns in the normal direction to feed the document sheet to the standby position. - When turning off of the paper set sensor (S6) is detected, the tray lift motor (M2) turns in the normal direction to lower the paper feed tray.
Page 28
2. Technical Explanation 8. Feeding the Second Sheet to the Horizontal Feed Section - The straight path feed motor (M11) turns in the reverse direction and the reverse unit motor (M3) also turns in the reverse direction to feed the document sheet to the horizontal feed section. - When the sheet has been fed by the specified distance since detection of turning off of the reverse timing sensor (S11), the reverse unit motor stops.
2. Technical Explanation Document Detection ■ Detection of Presence/Absence of Document The paper set sensor (S6) is used to detect presence/absence of paper on the tray. When paper is placed on the tray, the detection lever interlocked with the light shielding plate moves to allow the light blocked by the photo interrupter to pass through.
2. Technical Explanation Folding Unit Basic Construction ■ Overview The folder is an option installed upstream of the finisher. The folder Z-folds or C-folds the paper in response to the command from the host machine, and feeds the paper to the finisher by way of the through path.
Page 31
2. Technical Explanation ■ Electric Circuit Overview The operation sequence of the folder is controlled by the inserter/folder controller PCB. The inserter/folder controller PCB incorporates a CPU. The CPU interprets the signals from the sensors and host machine to output the signals for driving DC loads such as motors and solenoids at the predetermined timings.
2. Technical Explanation Controls ■ Overview This unit Z-/C-folds the paper from the host machine using rollers, and feeds the Z-folded paper to the finisher or delivers the C- folded paper to the C fold tray. When the paper need not be folded, the folder feeds it to the finisher directly. Motors, solenoids, and clutches are controlled by the inserter/folder controller PCB.
Page 33
2. Technical Explanation 4. Delivery [Details: When two A4-R document sheets are inserted] (1) Correction of registration of the first sheet A-1 The straight path entrance motor (M4) is driven to feed the sheet delivered from the host machine to the folding section. A-2 The straight path flapper solenoid (SL2) turns on.
Page 34
2. Technical Explanation (4) Correction of registration of the second sheet H-1 The straight path entrance motor (M4) is driven to feed the sheet delivered from the host machine to the folding section. H-2 The fold transport motor (M5) is driven. H-3 The upper stopper motor (M7) is driven to move the second fold stopper.
Page 35
2. Technical Explanation I-4 When the fold position sensor (S23) turns on, the skew correction release solenoid (SL3) turns on (skewness compensation of the rear end of the paper with skew compensation of the leading edge of the second paper). I-5 When the specified time has lapsed since turning on of the fold position sensor (S23), the fold position adjustment motor (M10) stops.
Page 36
2. Technical Explanation When the job start request is ON, the C fold sequence starts upon receipt of a C fold request signal. All C-folded sheets are delivered to the C fold tray. The C fold sequence is broadly divided into the following steps: 1.
Page 37
2. Technical Explanation H-1 The straight path entrance motor (M4) is driven to pull in the second sheet. H-2 When the upper stopper sensor (S22) turns off, the C fold guide solenoid (SL5) turns off. (4) Correction of registration of the second sheet I-1 The straight path entrance motor (M4) is driven to feed the sheet delivered from the host machine to the folding section.
Page 38
2. Technical Explanation J-2 The fold position adjustment motor (M10) is driven to pull in the sheet. J-3 When the fold position sensor (S23) turns on, the skew correction release solenoid (SL3) turns on (skewness compensation of the rear end of the paper with skew compensation of the leading edge of the second paper). J-4 When the specified time has lapsed since turning on of the fold position sensor (S23), the fold position adjustment motor (M10) stops.
Page 40
2. Technical Explanation ■ Fold Stopper There are two types of stoppers: the first C fold stopper and the second fold (Z/C fold) stopper. Positions of these stoppers are adjusted to the paper size by driving the C fold stopper adjustment motor (M8) and upper stopper motor (M7). The first C fold stopper is turned on/off by driving the C fold stopper solenoid (SL6).
2. Technical Explanation Detecting Jams Overview This unit is provided with the following paper sensors to detect presence/absence of paper and check whether paper is fed normally. S3 Paper feed sensor S12 Reverse entrance sensor S4 Paper registration sensor S15 C fold delivery sensor S6 Paper set sensor S21 Release timing sensor S7 Tray paper sensor 1...
2. Technical Explanation Power Supply Overview This unit is supplied with DC power by the power supply unit. Functions of the power supply unit and others are summarized in the table below. Name Function Power supply unit Generates DC power (5 V line and 24 V line). Supplies DC power to the inserter/folder controller PCB. Front upper cover switch (SW1) Turns on/off the 24 VDC.
