Getting to Know your Instrument

This infrared thermometer measures:

  • Temperature of human body
  • Surface temperature of objects and liquids
  • Ambient temperatures

Additional features include:

  • Stores last 60 measurements for plotting changes in temperature
  • Stores date and time with each measurement
  • Fever alarm for temperatures over 99.5°F (37.5°C)
  • Switchable between °F and °C
  • Bluetooth® communication via our free mobile app (requires a mobile device compatible with Bluetooth version 4.0 or later). For a list of compatible devices, scan this QR Code:

Different types of thermometers measure body temperature differently. The resulting temperature varies depending on the part of the body where the measurement is taken. Temperatures in various parts of the body can vary up to two degrees Fahrenheit.

Measurement Location Normal Temperature Range
Forehead temperature 96.4°F to 99.7°F (35.8°C to 37.6°C)
Ear temperature 96.8°F to 100.0°F (36.0°C to 37.8°C)
Oral temperature 96.8°F to 99.3°F (36.0°C to 37.4°C)
Rectal temperature 97.3°F to 100.0°F (36.3°C to 37.8°C)

NOTE: Temperatures measured with different thermometers cannot be compared. You should tell your doctor or keep in mind if you are measuring for yourself what type of thermometer you use and in which part of the body.

Temperature is also influenced by:

  • Individual metabolism
  • Age (body temperature is higher in babies and small children and falls with increasing age. Greater temperature fluctuations occur faster and more often in children)
  • Clothing
  • Outside temperature
  • The time of day (body temperature is lower in the morning and increases slightly throughout the day).
  • Physical and, to a lesser extent, mental activity.

NOTE: Taking your temperature provides information about your current state of well-being. If you are uncertain about interpreting the results or if the result is abnormal (e.g. fever), consult your doctor. This also applies in the case of slight temperature changes if there are other symptoms of illness such as agitation, severe sweating, flushed skin, fast pulse rate, tendency to collapse, etc.

To Use

Forehead Temperature Measurement:
NOTES:

  • Physical activity, increased perspiration on the forehead, taking vasoconstrictive medication and skin irritations can distort the measurement.
  • The forehead, or the temples, must be free from perspiration and cosmetics.
  • If possible, take three measurements on the forehead. If the three measurements differ, use the highest value.
  • If the forehead area is covered in hair, sweat or dirt, clean the area and then wait for 10 minutes before measurement.
  • Keep the thermometer still during measurement. Moving the thermometer during measurement may cause incorrect results.
  1. Press the ON/OFF Button " " to switch the thermometer on; the LCD Display will activate in forehead temperature measurement mode as indicated by the forehead icon at the top of the display.
  2. Hold the thermometer 1-2 inches from the forehead while pointing the sensor toward the middle of the forehead. Press the START button to measure.
  3. After about a second, the thermometer will beep once and display the measurement. Press the ON/OFF Button to shut the thermometer off.
  1. If the measurement is less than 99.5°F (37.5°C), the "no fever" icon will display and the Fever Indicator ring around the ON/OFF Button will illuminate in green. If the measurement is 99.5°F - 100.3°F (37.5°C - 37.9°C), the Fever Indicator will illuminate yellow. If the measurement is over or exactly 100.4°F, the fever icon will display and the Fever Indicator will illuminate red.
  2. The device is ready to take another measurement when two short beeps sound and the forehead symbol stops flashing. The device will shut off after about one minute; to manually shut the device off, press and hold the ON/OFF button.

Bluetooth® and the Beurer HealthCoach app
To store measurements on your mobile device, download and install the free HealthCoach app from the Google Play Store (for Android devices) or the Apple App Store (for iOS devices). After downloading the app, start it and add FT95 under "Settings--> My devices." If you find that measurements do not transfer to the app, try removing the protective cover from your mobile device to ensure the signal is not being blocked.
If Bluetooth is active on the thermometer and it is paired with your mobile device, measurements will transfer to the Beurer HealthCoach mobile app. The Bluetooth® symbol will flash on the LCD Display while the thermometer attempts to connect to the app for about 30 seconds. The Bluetooth icon will stop flashing when the thermometer connects to your device's mobile app and stored measurements will then transfer. Afterwards, the thermometer will shut off after 60 seconds, or press the ON/OFF Button to shut it off manually.

Viewing Stored Measurements
This device stores 60 measurements, along with the date/time and "fever"/"no fever" classification. With the device switched on, press and hold the MODE/MEM button for about three seconds; the most recent measurement will display. Press the MODE/MEM button repeatedly to cycle through the older measurements.

Surface temperatures:
To measure the surface temperature of an object, change the thermometer to Object Temperature Mode.

  1. Press the ON/OFF Button to switch the thermometer on. Change the thermometer to surface temperature mode by pressing the MODE/ MEM Button. The object temperature mode icon will display.
  2. Hold the sensor 1-1 ½ inches (2-3 cm) from the object to be measured and press the START Button. After about a second, the thermometer will beep once and display the measurement. Press the ON/OFF button to shut the thermometer off.

Ambient temperature:
To measure the ambient temperature in your location, switch the thermometer to ambient temperature mode.

  1. Press the ON/OFF Button to switch the thermometer on. Change the thermometer to ambient temperature mode by pressing the MODE/ MEM Button twice. The ambient temperature mode icon will display.
  2. The ambient temperature around the thermometer will display. The thermometer will shut off about one minute if no buttons are pressed; press the ON/OFF button to shut the thermometer off manually. Note that ambient temperature measurements are not saved.
