Overview
The WTL (Wireless Pneumatic Thermostats LoRa) Series
Survey Kit is intended to survey a site for compatibility
with the WTL Thermostat. Use the WTL Survey Kit to
perform a range test to determine the strength of the
wireless connection between the WTL Thermostat, WTL
Gateway, and WTL Control Server at the locations where
you plan to install the devices. If the signal strength is not
sufficient at the WTL Thermostat installation locations,
you may need to adjust the gateway and control server
installation location or potentially add additional gateways
to ensure sufficient wireless signal coverage.
If you already own a WTL Series Gateway and Thermostat,
you can use those devices to perform a range test and
determine the best locations to install the devices. When
the wireless network configuration is complete, use the
WTL Thermostat in the same way as you would use the
WTL test unit to test the range.

Location considerations
The following objects can affect the wireless range. Avoid
these objects in the line of transmission.
• Solid metal sheets
• Rebar-reinforced concrete
• Metal-reinforced concrete walls, pillars, and columns
• Hollow lightweight walls filled with insulating metal foil
• Office equipment and furniture such as book shelves,
file cabinets, metal partitions, and computer racks
• Glass walls with metal coating
• Plumbing and electrical risers
• Elevator shafts and stairwells
• Mechanical and electrical equipment rooms
Performing a range test
About this task:
The survey kit is assembled and ready for use from the
factory. To perform a range test, complete the following
steps:
1.
Place the gateway test unit at the location where
you plan to install the gateway.
2.
Place the WTL test unit at the location where you
plan to install the WTL Thermostat.
3.
Press any button on the WTL test unit to start the
range test.
Note: Do not obstruct the antenna with your
hands or body. Obstruction from the body can
affect the signal.
The WTL test unit tests the link every 5 seconds for
a duration of 30 seconds. The display shows the
connection strength for each transmission between
the WTL test unit and gateway test unit in the for-
mat as indicated in Table 2. After 30 seconds, the
WTL test unit goes back to sleep.
For each thermostat installation location, a signal
strength of 04 or 05 is preferred for optimal opera-
tion.
