Caution and Warning Symbols
This instructon manual features the following caution and warning symbols to indicate items of special
importance. Be sure to read through the contents of these warnings, and use the features correctly.
This symbol indicates an immediately hazardous situation which if not avoided, will result in
death or serious injury.
This symbol indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, I! not avoided, may result in
minor injury or equipment damage.
Handling Precautions
<Camera Handling Precautions>
e If the camera or battery pack becomes hot, emits smoke or a strange smell, or display other
abnormal symptoms, remove them from the camera immediately to prevent fire. When
handling the battery pack, take precaubons to avoid being burned.
O Never attempt to disassemble
or modify the camera, since you may receive n severe electric
shock
@ Do not operalo the electronic flash in close proximity to a person's eyes (especially those of
an infant), since eye Gamage may result

the camera, since

may be damaged.
e Do not attempt to take pictures while driving or walking, particularly when looking through
the viewfinder or at the LCD monitor, since you may cause an accident,
® When taking pictures, remain aware of your surroundings and what is happening around you.
Clean the camera well after using it an the beach or other locations where it may be
exposed to sand or dust, Salt air may lead to corrosion of metal components and damage or
short circuit electronic parts, causing the camera to emt smoke or catch fre. Sand inside
the camera may result in Internal damage and operating malfunctions,
Sudden charges in temperature that occur when the camera is brought from a cold place to
a warm room may cause the lens to fog up. This condition will clear after a while, but
repeated exposure may Cause Condensation to form on the lens and interna! parts. Such
condensation may damage or short circuit electronic parts, causing (he camera to emit
smoke of catch fire
Whenever possible, avoid subjecting the camera to sudden changes in temperature
e This camera is a precision electronic instrument, and should be protected from impacts and
shocks that might damage or short-circuit interna! components.
e When taking the camera overseas or using it to record important events, check its
operating condition and take test pictures beforehand lo confirm
proper operation.

and cannot be used in the rain or under water. li the camera
should inadvertently be exposed to water, 1 should immediately be taken to a Contax Service Center for
inspection.

e Clean the camera body by wiping with soft cloth, Never use benzene, thinner, or other volatile solvents ar
cleansers, since such substances will damage the body materials,
e The camera will become warm when used for extended shooting sessions, This 15 normal and not a cause for
concern.
e Do not remove the memory card while the card access LED is flashing.
e Interference may occur in recorded or played back images when the camera is used In areas subject to strong
slectromagnetic interference (0.9,, near a television set ar Stereo speakers).
@ Do not aim the camera lens directly at the sun when shooting. since the CCD element may be damaged.
@ Dropping the camera may cause damage to internal parts even though the camera may appear to be
undamaged. Always take the camera lo a Contax Service Center for inspection if it has been dropped
