10/100BASE-T NETWORK TAP 2. Overview The 10/100BASE-T Network Tap enables you to connect a monitoring device (such as a protocol analyzer, intrusion detection system, or RMON probe) to your network. It’s compatible with all major manufacturers’ network equipment. The tap provides passive access to the network at 10 or 100 Mbps.
CHAPTER 3: Typical Application 3. Typical Application The 10/100BASE-T Network Tap should be installed in your network between two network devices. Once it’s installed, connect the monitoring device to the tap. As shown in the diagram on the next page (see ➀), the passive 10/100BASE-T Network Tap creates a permanent, in-line access port to monitor all full-duplex traffic without data-stream interference.

CHAPTER 4: Troubleshooting 4. Troubleshooting 4.1 Calling Black Box If you determine that your 10/100BASE-T Network Tap is malfunctioning, do not attempt to alter or repair the unit. It contains no user-serviceable parts. Contact Black Box at 724-746-5500. Before you do, make a record of the history of the problem.
• Package it carefully. We recommend that you use the original container. • If you are shipping the 10/100BASE-T Network Tap for repair, make sure you include everything that came in the original package. Before you ship, contact Black Box to get a Return Authorization (RA) number.
