The GW HART USB MODEM test utility provides a convenient way to verify the communication between the GW HART USB MODEM and the HART device. Open the GW HART USB MODEM test utility by accessing the shortcut in the start menu or navigate to the utility in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Phoenix Contact\GW HART USB MODEM Driver 64bit\bin directory.

Figure 3: GW HART USB Test program If the HART device is not displayed after a scan, verify that the wiring is correct, and the GW HART USB MODEM is connected across the external 250 Ω resistor or the HART device. Alternatively, the HART address may be set to greater than 15 and will not appear during a scan.

GW HART USB MODEM installation The Topology Scan window will appear. Click the arrow button to begin scanning for HART devices. The GW HART USB MODEM will scan for HART devices address between 0 and 63. Figure 8: Initiate Topology Scan When the scan is complete, the Topology Scan will suggest the DTM that best represents the discovered HART device.

In the Project tree, click on the newly added HART device and click the connect button. Double click on the HART device and the DTM will open.
