BC23AS
EXTERNAL SPEAKER
OWNER'S MANUAL
Thank you for purchasing Uniden's BC23AS external speaker. This high
quality external speaker is designed and engineered to provide optimum
performance with Uniden CB radios and scanners.
INSTALLING THE SPEAKER
The BC23AS is typically mounted in the same vehicle in which your CB
radio or scanner is mounted. For home use, an AC to DC power supply
rated at DC12V (13.8V) is required.
CAUTION:
• Avoid mounting the speaker in direct sunlight or high temperature
areas.
• Avoid running the cable across sharp metal edges or moving parts.
• Do not block air conditioning or heating vents.
• Avoid airbag deployment zones to ensure proper performance and
prevent injury.
To mount the speaker, use the mounting bracket as a template to mark
drilling holes. Drill holes and screw in the bracket. Align the speaker with
the adjustment knob holes in the bracket and screw in the adjustment
knobs.
CONNECTING POWER
The red and black power cable is hard wired into the back of the speaker. It
separates into individual red and black wires.
1. Verify that the DC power source voltage is between DC11.7V to 15.8V.
DC24V is not supported.
2. Connect the black (ground) wire to any nearby metal bolt or screw that
is connected to the vehicle's chassis ground.
3. Connect the red wire to a point in the vehicle's fuse box that supplies
power only when the ignition is on.
NOTE: The speaker is operational only if it has been connected to a DC13.8V
1.5A power source.
OPERATING THE SPEAKER
The audio cable is also hard wired into the back of the speaker. Insert the
audio plug into the EXT. SP jack of your Bearcat CB or scanner.
The volume control dial on the side of the speaker controls power as well
as volume. Dial it UP to turn on the speaker and increase the volume. Dial
it DOWN to turn the speaker off and to decrease the volume.
AUTO POWER MODE
The BC23AS Auto Power mode automatically powers on the speaker when
it detects an audio signal input and automatically powers it off if it does
not receive an audio signal for 25 seconds. You can disable and enable this
feature.
To disable Auto Power mode, push the POWER button on the top of the
speaker into an engaged position. The BC23AS speaker will remain on
regardless of whether or not an audio signal is received for 25 seconds. The
red power LED beside the POWER button will remain lit.
To enable Auto Power mode if it has been disabled, push the POWER
button again to release the button and re-enable Auto Power mode. If
there is no signal for 25 seconds, the power will turn off automatically and
red power LED will turn OFF.
NOTE: A certain signal level is required to activate AUTO POWER mode. If the
power does not turn on automatically, try increasing the volume level on the
connected device.
NOTE: In Auto Power mode, there is a slight delay between detecting the audio
signal and automatically turning on the power and outputting audio. You
may sometimes miss the first few words, especially if the BC23AS is connected
to a scanner radio and there are short communication with a 25 second or
more interval.
