  • Page 5 SmartBox. ORIENTATION AND PLACEMENT The SmartBox has to be installed on a flat surface perpendicular to the ground, however it doesn’t require to be oriented in any specific way. We recommend installing the SmartBox in a location that allows for the shortest possible connections with the retracts and brakes.
  • Page 6: Step 1: Retracts Connection

Since the landing gear sets and the SmartBox are provided with wires, you don’t have to worry about the polarity, as the XT-30U connectors have a form factor that prevents incorrect connections.
  • Page 7: Step 2: Brakes Connection

Brakes Connect the brake wires to the Brake Outputs. There are two brake outputs, indicated on top of the SmartBox as “Brake L” and “Brake R” and they correspond to the left and right brakes respectively. Each output has three pins, with the central pin not being used..
  • Page 8: Step 3: Steering Servo Connection

Connect the steering servo wire to the Rudder servo Output. We highly recommend to operate the steering servo via the SmartBox, as opposed to directly controlling the servo from the receiver. This could cause the servo to move at the wrong time, damaging or blocking the landing gear.

There are three PWM radio inputs. The polarity of these Negative inputs is indicated on top of the SmartBox. Positive NOTE: The voltage provided by the receiver can’t be higher than 9 V, and it should be the same for all of signal inputs.

In order for the SmartBox to operate, one battery is always needed at the Batt 1 Input. The Batt 2 Input, and when and why you might want to use two batteries, will be explained in the next two pages.
  • Page 11 WORKING WITH A SINGLE BATTERY Supply I At least one battery is required for the SmartBox to properly operate. This battery must be connected at the Batt 1 Input. When only Batt 1 is connected, all the connected devices (except for the Steering Servo) will draw power from this battery.
  • Page 12 SmartBox User manual and installation instructions Power USING TWO BATTERIES. WHEN AND WHY? Supply II The Batt 2 Input can be used in case the door servo motors / actuators of your choice, BATT 2 require a different voltage than your retract units.
  • Page 13: Step 6: Connect The Door Servos / Actuators

You can connect one device per output. By default, the first time you use the SmartBox, the door sequencer will be turned OFF. You can safely connect your door servos / actuators without risk of them moving, colliding or being damaged.
