    QUICK START 1. Remove protective films from the camera lens, LEDs, PIR sensor and light sensor. 2. If using batteries, install 4x AA. Use Alkaline or Lithium - not rechargeable. Energizer brand are recommended. These will act as backup batteries when the solar battery is too low.
  • Page 9 The first time you turn it on, the camera will prompt you to set the data / time and format the microSD card, ready for first use. Note: More detailed settings are available via the camera’s menu. Connecting via the app will auto- update the date/time on the camera.

    INSTALLING THE APP The Helarctos is designed to work with the ‘WILDLIFE CAM’ app. The app allows you to view the camera status, control camera settings, view a live view from the camera, and view and download videos/photos taken. To download the app, move the switch to ‘SETUP’, and then press the ‘UP’...

    CONNECTING TO THE APP Before connecting, make sure your phone’s Bluetooth and WiFi are turned on. Your camera should be in ‘SETUP’ mode. 1. Open the app. If opening for the first time, press the ‘+ Camera’ button on the bottom right.

    MODE SWITCH The camera’s switch has 3 positions: The camera is completely switched off. SETUP This will turn the camera screen on and allow you to adjust settings, playback photos or video, and initially connect the camera to the app (if you’ve not previously connected). The camera will auto-switch off if left in SETUP mode with no button presses after 3 minutes.

    SETTINGS You can change the camera’s settings on the camera or via the app. To change via the camera, move the switch to SETUP. Press the Menu/Replay button arrow, as shown on page 3. This will take you to Playback. Press the Menu/Replay button again, and it will enter the settings menu.
  • Page 16 Mode: Photo / Video / Photo + Video Set what you want the camera to take when triggered. When in ‘Photo + Video’ mode, the camera takes photos before a video. PIR Interval: 30 secs, ranges 5secs to 60mins The time the camera will ‘wait’ between triggers.
  • Page 17 Timelapse: Off / On When ‘On’, the camera will automatically take photos/videos on the selected time interval, regardless of whether the PIR sensor has detected an animal or not. This is useful for monitoring cold blooded animals like reptiles, construction projects or plant growth. NOTE: If Timelapse mode is active, the camera will not trigger via the PIR sensor.
  • Page 18 Low Battery at Night: No Shutting No IR LED / These settings kick in when the solar and (if present) AA batteries are low. No shutting means the camera will stop taking photos / videos at night. No IR LED means the camera will trigger at night, but not turn on the IR LEDs, to conserve power.

A higher resolution will produce better quality videos but take up more space on the microSD card.
  • Page 21 Language: English Change the camera’s default language. Default Setting: Cancel / OK Press ‘OK’ to reset the camera fully to its default settings, and confirm again by pressing ‘OK’. Format: Cancel / OK This option formats the microSD card, wiping all data and getting the card ready for use with the camera.
  • Page 22 AA Battery Power Show the power percentage of the AA batteries, if installed. This option will be greyed out if no batteries are installed. Time Format: 24 hour 12 hour / Press ‘OK’ to reset the camera fully to its default settings, and confirm again by pressing ‘OK’.
  • Page 23 Camera name: HELARCTOS Customise the camera name. This displays on the date stamp if option turned on . Password Option: Off / On After selecting ‘On’, enter a 4 digit passcode to lock your camera. The password must be entered each time the camera is switched to SETUP mode.
  • Page 24 Backlight: 1 min / 3 min / 5 min / Off Duration the screen backlight stays on in SETUP mode without button presses. Version: Current software version. Firmware Update: This is to update the firmware. Generally not required unless instructed by NatureSpy.

  • Page 28 CAMERA IS NOT SAVING IMAGES Check the microSD card is not full. Format the card in the camera, using the ‘Format’ menu option in the settings CAMERA IS TAKING IMAGES WITH NOTHING IN THE FRAME These are called ‘false-triggers’ - where the PIR has detected motion and heat (also known as heat in motion), and triggered.
  • Page 29 BATTERY NOT LASTING AS EXPECTED The settings have a big impact on battery life, as well as how active the camera is. Video uses much more power than photo mode. Shorter video length and longer PIR Intervals will improve battery life. If the camera is very active, the solar panel may not be able to charge up the internal battery in time, especially in darker conditions / colder...
  • Page 30 THE SOLAR PANEL ISN’T CHARGING Please gently clean the solar panel with a damp cloth to remove any dust and dirt. The charging temperature is between 0°C and 50°C. The sunlight intensity, time exposed to sunlight, and ambient temperature all affect the charging efficiency.

    WARRANTY Your NatureSpy product is warranted to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for two years from the date of purchase. In the event of a defect under this warranty, we will, at our option, repair or replace the product. To claim under this warranty, contact us via our website.
