Product Description
smartluffs are wireless load sensors, manufactured in aluminium and designed to be sewn into sails, allowing sailors to
gather cloth load data to help with consistent sail setting and gear changing. Designed in collaboration with North Sails, a
smartsail will help you measure and repeat your fast settings every time.
How it works...
Pass sail corner webbing through one smartluff loop to attach to a tack, clew or head, and use the other loop with a soft
strop for control lines (tackline, sheet or halyard). Connect the sensor to your phone via our smartphone app or to marine
electronics via optional smartfittings gateway for immediate load data.
Correct installation
smartluff is designed to be loaded inline with soft
lines/rope/strops on one side, and webbing on the other,
for the most accurate load measurement. Please note size
1 is symmetrical and the larger loop on size 2 is for control
lines and the flat loop for webbing.

Never connect the smarluff to the sail or the boat with a
hard shackle. THIS WILL VOID THE WARRANTY.
Strops
On the sail end, webbing should be used. See North Sails
BlueBook 19.13.
For the boat-end attachment, see below for recommended

Safety
Please read all instructions before using smartluff to
measure loads. Always perform a safety evaluation before
use to ensure that use of the sensor is not dangerous to
nearby people or property.
The smartluff is not intended to support personnel working
aloft.
Overload
The MWL of a smarluff must not be exceeded, as this may
cause damage to the internal instrumentation and will
invalidate the warranty.
SHOCK LOADING (i.e. strop failure) OR OVERLOADING TO
150% OF MWL WILL RESULT IN PERMANENT DAMAGE TO
THE SENSOR THAT WILL REQUIRE RECALIBRATION
Calibration
If the smarluff has been under load for a significant length
of time, the sensor may take 1-2 minutes to return to zero
when the load is removed. This is to be expected.
A significant impact to the body of the sensor can affect
the calibration. This would require the device to be
returned to Cyclops for inspection and re-calibration.
