The 5G modem upgrade does not significantly increase cellular data rates, as upload speed is limited to around 5 Mbps by the FlashBack-4. Better signal coverage is achieved by using external antennas with SMA connectors which should be used where possible. FlashBack-4G 2.2 Inserting the SIM Card FlashBack-4G uses a standard SIM card which is inserted with the following orientation. Push into the slot until a “click” is felt / heard. The SIM is removed by first pushing the card forward (into the unit) to disengage the SIM card from the holder.

2.4 Expected Current Consumption When recording and streaming over a 3G or 4G link, FlashBack-4G draws between 450 to 600mA from a 12V supply depending upon the connection. The average current draw is around 500mA (6 Watts) plus any current draw from the connected camera(s) which typically adds 100 to 200mA.

3.1 Entering the SIM APN Before a cellular connection can be made, a number of parameters have to be entered into the FlashBack-4G. FlashBack-4G 4.2 Network Connection Status LED / Echo Server By default, the FB-4 uses an Ovation Systems echo server to verify the internet connection and correctly set the "Network Connection" status LED. The echo server address is set in the “4G Modem” section of the “Network” tab. If you are connecting via the Ovation Server, these server connections are used in preference to the echo server as soon as a connection has been established.

FlashBack-4G 5.6 Encrypting SMS Texts If required, FlashBack-4G can optionally encrypt the SMS texts which are then decoded by and webpage browser application that will run on any PC, tablet or smartphone (see the next section below regarding setup with iOS).
