Asus UX425EA Repair Manual

Service Overview

Please pay special attention to the cautions below to prevent any damages to the notebook and please be sure to select the appropriate tools described in this section to perform any services desired.

Precautions

Before you perform any service or repair on the notebook, please follow the steps below first.

  1. Be sure that the notebook is powered down.
  2. Disconnect the AC plug from the notebook.
  3. Remove all rings, watches and any other metal objects from your hands.

  4. Always wear a ground strap on your hand to protect the notebook from static discharge.
  5. Please refer to "ANSI ESD S20.20" about ESD protection measure.
  6. Put disassemble the parts in the functional PE BAG for avoid any damages of the A/B/C/D part.

  7. Environment temperature is 20-30 ℃ and humidity is 40% - 70%.
  8. Avoid scratching the surface of the machine; please use anti-static and soft materials to put on desk in repair environment as below photo.

  1. Screw Appearance Criteria. If the screws have the following damaged appearance, please do not use.
    1. Shape deformed.
    2. Paint scratched off.
    3. Rusty.
    4. Damaged head – unable to drive in.
    5. Damaged unable to securely tighten.

Appropriate Tools

The illustrations below show the appropriate tools that should be used for the notebook's service and repair.

  • Cross Screwdriver
    Please accord to different screw specification to choose different screwdriver and head.
    Below photos are for reference only.
    Use a cross screwdriver to fasten/remove screws.
  • Plastic Blade
  • Tweezers
    Use a pair of tweezers to remove/insert flexible cables.
  • Thickness gauge
    Thickness compass specification 0.05mm-1.5mm. Use it to measure the gap.

Bottom Case Module

The illustrations below show how to remove the Bottom Case Module.
Notice: Before disassembly, please be sure to pull out adapter and disconnect the battery more than ten seconds in order to avoid IC damage.

  1. Remove 2 foot rubbers firstly, then remove 7 screws on the bottom case.
    Assembly Notice: Follow the reverse numbers to lock screws and install 2 rubbers.
    Screw tightening torque (Kg F-cm): 2.0KG±0.2kgf.
    Screw tightening torque (Kg F-cm): 2.0KG±0.2kgf.

  1. Use plastic blade to pry Bottom Case and remove it.

    Assembly Notice: Check the conductive sponges whether exist on the bottom case when assemble the bottom case.

Battery Module

The illustrations below show how to remove the Battery Module.

  1. Push back the anti-off metal then disconnect the battery cable from MB.
    Notice: Before disassembly, please be sure to pull out adapter and disconnect the battery more than ten seconds in order to avoid IC damage.

    Please follow below steps to disconnect battery connector.

  1. Follow below numbers to remove 6 screws on the battery module.
    Assembly Notice: Follow the reverse numbers to lock screws.
    Screw tightening torque (Kg F-cm): 2.0KG±0.2kgf.

Antenna & Speaker Module

The illustrations below show how to remove the antenna & speaker Module.

  1. Disconnect the WLAN antenna connector from the MB.
    Assembly Notice: Black main cable connect the indicator number 2(▲MAIN), white aux cable connect the indicator number 1(∆AUX).

  1. Disconnect the speaker module connector from the USB board, shows as below.

  2. Remove 3 conductive sponges, then take the speakers away carefully.

    Assembly Notice: Must place the speaker/antenna cables in the hook slot carefully as below and stick conductive sponges.

  1. Separate the speaker and antenna module.

    Assemble Notice: Please align the pin to assemble the antenna module.

Fan Module

The illustrations below show how to remove the fan Module.

  1. Remove 3 screws and pull out the Fan Cables.
    Assembly Notice: Follow the reverse numbers to lock screws.
    Screw tightening torque: 2.0KG±0.2kgf

  1. Take out the fans from the bottom case.

    Notice: Please use the correct technique of taking fans in order to avoid being out of shape.

SSD Module

The illustrations below show how to remove the SSD Module.

  1. Remove 2 screws and remove SSD shielding, shows as below.
    Screw tightening torque (Kg F-cm): 2.0KG±0.2kgf

  1. Remove SSD, please note the direction, shows as below.

    The parts can be reused if they are not damaged.

Thermal Module

The illustrations below show how to remove the thermal Module.

  1. Follow below numbers to remove 4 screws on the thermal module.
    Assembly Notice: Follow the reverse numbers to lock screws.
    Screw tightening torque (Kg F-cm): 2.0± 0.2 Kg/cm2.
    Notice: Must clean the CPU PAD before install a new one thermal module.

  1. Remove the thermal module from the MB, shows as below.

Motherboard Module

The illustrations below show how to remove the Motherboard Module.

  1. Tear off the acetate cloth from the EDP cable connector on MB, then disconnect the EDP cable. Remove 2 screws which locked on the FPC cable, shows as below.
    Assembly Notice: Follow the reverse numbers to lock screws.
    Screw tightening torque: 2.0KG± 0.2kgf
    Motherboard Module - Step 1
  1. Disconnect the I/O FPC, TP FFC, K/B, K/B backlight cable from MB.
    Assembly Notice: Insert FFC to the bottom until just accord with the line when lock the latch.

    Assembly notice: Please change new one, if FFC damaged during disassembly.
    There are some FFC cables damaged sample.

  1. Remove 4 screws on the motherboard, shows as below.
    Assembly Notice: Follow the reverse numbers to lock screws.
    Screw tightening torque: 2.0KG± 0.2kgf

  1. Take off the motherboard from bottom case, shows as below.

    Note: Must check the mylar before MB installation.

USB board Module

The illustrations below show how to remove the USB board Module.

  1. Disconnect the LCD cable from the USB board firstly, shows as below.

  1. Remove 3 screws from the USB board, shows as below.
    Assembly Notice: Follow the reverse numbers to lock screws.
    Screw tightening torque: 2.0KG± 0.2kgf

  1. Remove I/O FPC cable, shows as below
    Note: The conductive sponge can't be missing when do cable installation.

  1. Check the material on USB board, shows as below.
    Note: Must check the mylar before DB installation.

Touchpad Module

The illustrations below show how to remove the Touchpad Module.

  1. Disconnect the TP FFC, shows as below
    Assembly notice: Insert FFC to the bottom until just accord with the line when lock the latch.

    Assembly Notice: Follow the reverse numbers to lock screws. Screw tightening torque: 2.0KG± 0.2kgf

    Assembly notice: Please change new one, if FFC is damaged during disassembly.

Top Case Module

The illustrations below show how to remove the Top Case Module.

  1. Remove 3 screws in each side of the hinge, then separate the Top case module and Bottom case module.
    Assembly Notice: Follow the reverse numbers to lock screws. Screw tightening torque: 2.0KG± 0.2kgf

  1. Roll up the hinge, shows as below

  1. Separate bottom case module and top case module.

LCD Module

The illustrations below show how to remove the LCD Module.

  1. Use disassembly tool to pry up the edge of between LCD bezel and LCD cover. And take it away.

    danger Attention: The bezel has 3 kinds of Bezel Tapes, please stick new ones when you assemble it. The positions of the tapes as below:

    Follow below request to stick the taps:
    Notice: The adhesive should not exceed the edge of the inner frame and should not be lifted, skewed or wrinkled.

  1. Remove 6 screws on hinge, shows as below. Screw tightening torque: 2.0± 0.2 Kg/cm2
    Assembly note: If you change hinges (right and left), please make sure all hinges are the same vendor.

  1. Pull out the easy-pull glue (adhesive) in left and right side gently
    Notice: Please keep pulling at a constant angle of more than 30 degrees. Don't break it, especially at the beginning. Pull out the easy-pull glue (adhesive) in left and right side gently.

    Notice : Please slowly pull the adhesive up about 30 degree.

  1. Separate the LCM from the top case module.

    warningAttention: Please stick 2 new easy tapes when you assemble it. The positions of the tapes shows as below, please note the direction.
    NOTE: For different configuration, use different tapes.

  1. Tear off the film on the LCD and pick up the hoop on the connector.
    LCD Module - Step 9
  1. Disconnect the LCM cable from the camera module then remove the cable from the LCD cover.
    Assembly Notice: Please place the cable correctly as below.

  2. Pry up the camera module from the LCD cover with tweezers.
    Note: Must be careful to pry up this module, it is easily damaged component.

    Note: The MIC rubber can't be missing, can't reverse.
