1The FreeStyle Libre 2 reader is designed to be used only with FreeStyle Optium blood glucose and blood ketone test strips and MediSense control solution.

How to scan your sensor
After applying your FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor, you will need to activate it with FreeStyle Libre 2 reader.

  1. Press the Home button to turn on the reader.
    Note: If using Reader for the first time, follow the prompts to set date and time.
  2. Press 'Start New Sensor' on the screen.
  3. Hold the reader within 4cm of the sensor.
  4. If sounds are turned on, the reader beeps when the sensor has been successfully activated.
  5. After the 60-minute warm-up period, you can check your glucose anytime by scanning the sensor with your reader.


If you start your FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor with your FreeStyle Libre 2 reader you will not receive real-time glucose readings, even if you use the updated FreeStyle LibreLink app 2,3 as your second device. You will need to scan to get your glucose reading on both devices. Glucose alarms are only received on the device used to start the sensor.

  1. Once you activate a sensor with a reader, you can receive alarms from the reader only. To use the same sensor with your compatible smartphone, start your sensor with the reader then scan it with FreeStyle LibreLink app. If you are using two devices with the same Sensor, be sure to scan frequently with both devices.
  2. The FreeStyle LibreLink app is only compatible with certain mobile devices and operating systems. Please check the website for more information about device compatibility before using the app. Use of FreeStyle LibreLink may require registration with LibreView.
  3. Glucose readings are automatically displayed in the app only when the smartphone and sensor are connected and in range.

  1. You can choose which device you want to receive alarms: FreeStyle Libre 2 reader or FreeStyle LibreLink app. You must then start your FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor with that selected device. Once you scan your sensor with that device, you can receive alarms only on that device.
  2. Please see the FreeStyle Libre 2 User's Manual for complete instructions.
  3. 9 mmol/L is the default Low Glucose Alarm level and can be set between 3.3-5.6 mmol/L. 13.3 mmol/L is the default High Glucose Alarm level and can be set between 6.7-22.2 mmol/L.

Note: The first time a glucose alarm is set, the signal loss alarm is automatically turned on. This notifies you when the sensor isn't communicating with the reader for 20 minutes and that you are not receiving low or high glucose alarms.

Reports

The FreeStyle Libre 2 Reader uncovers trends and patterns to help you review your glucose history

Daily Patterns
Presents a graph showing the pattern and variability of your sensor glucose over a typical day. Note: Daily Patterns needs at least 5 days of glucose data.

Time in Target
Shows a graph with the percentage of time your sensor glucose readings were above, below, or within your target glucose range.

Low Glucose Events
Displays information about the number of low glucose events measured by your sensor.
