    Disassembly Procedures Safety Guidelines This chapter contains step by step procedures on how to remove and de-install components from the computer. Use the following safety guidelines to ensure your personal safety. Each procedure included in this chapter assumes that you are preparing your computer for recycling and disposal.

  • Page 7 Pre-disassembly Instructions Do the following prior to starting any maintenance procedures: 1. Place the system on a stable work surface. 2. Remove the AC adapter from the DC-in jack (A) or the power adapter from the USB Type-C port (B) as shown in Figure 1-1.

    Battery Pack Removal Prerequisite: Base Cover Removal 1. Find the battery pack (A) in the system (Figure 1-6). 2. Disconnect the battery cable from the mainboard connector (C) (Figure 1-7).

    WLAN Module Removal Prerequisite: Battery Pack Removal 1. Find the WLAN module (A) on the top assembly (Figure 1-14). Figure 1-14. WLAN Module Location 2. Disconnect the WLAN antennas cables from the WLAN module connectors (B) (Figure 1-15). 3. Remove one (1) screw securing the WLAN module in place (Figure 1-15).

    RTC Battery Removal Prerequisite: Battery Pack Removal 1. Disconnect the RTC battery cable from the mainboard connector (A) (Figure 1-17). 2. Using plastic tweezers, carefully pry to detach the adhesive tape underneath the RTC battery (B) (Figure 1-17). Then remove the RTC battery. WEEE Annex VII Component: RTC Battery Figure 1-17.

    LCD Module Removal Prerequisite: Battery Pack Removal 1. Disconnect the WLAN antennas cables from the WLAN module connectors (A). Then unroute and release the cables from the cable clips as shown in Figure 1-18. Figure 1-18. LCD Module Removal 1-16 Disassembly Procedures...
  • Page 19 2. Disconnect the LVDS cable from the mainboard connector (B). Then unroute the cable from the cable guides as shown in Figure 1-19. 3. Disconnect the G-sensor board cable from the mainboard connector (C). Then unroute the cable from the cable guides as shown in Figure 1-19.

    Touchpad Module Removal Prerequisite: Battery Pack Removal 1. Slightly detach and lift the mylar. Then disconnect the touchpad FFC (A) from the mainboard and touchpad module connectors (Figure 1-24). Then remove the FFC. Figure 1-24. Touchpad Module Removal CAUTION: Touchpad FFC (Flexible Flat Circuit) can be damaged if removed while the mainboard and touchpad module connectors are locked.
  • Page 23 2. Disconnect the GMR sensor board FFC from the mainboard connector (B) (Figure 1-25). 3. Disconnect the fingerprint FFC (C) from the mainboard and touchpad module connectors. Then carefully detach the FFC from its underneath adhesive and remove the fingerprint FFC (Figure 1-25).

Using the screwdriver, push the guide pin (E) firmly to release it from the top assembly (Figure 1-28). 7. Slide the touchpad module slightly to disengage it from the bottom latches (F), and then remove the touchpad module (G) from the top assembly (Figure 1-28).

    Mainboard Removal Prerequisite: Ensure that the SSD Module, WLAN Module, Heatsink, and Fan have been disassembled prior removing the mainboard. 1. Remove four screws (A) securing the left LCD hinge (Figure 1-29). Figure 1-29. Mainboard Removal 2. Lift the top assembly until it is fully open (Figure 1-30).

Disconnect the USB board FFC from the mainboard connector (B) (Figure 1-32). 5. Disconnect the keyboard backlight FPC from the mainboard connector (C) (Figure 1-32).
  • Page 27 14. Disconnect the G-sensor board cable from the mainboard connector (L). Then unroute the cable from the cable guides as shown in Figure 1-32. Figure 1-32. Mainboard Removal CAUTION: USB board FFC (Flexible Flat Circuit), touchpad FFC, fingerprint FFC, GMR sensor board FFC, keyboard backlight FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit), and keyboard FPC, can be damaged if removed while the mainboard connectors are locked.

    USB Board Removal Prerequisite: Ensure that the Fan has been disassembled prior removing the USB board. 1. Disconnect the WLAN antennas cables from the WLAN module connectors (A). Then unroute and release the cables from the cable clips as shown in Figure 1-36.
  • Page 30 2. Disconnect the USB board FFC (B) from the USB board and mainboard connectors Then carefully detach the FFC from its underneath adhesive and remove the USB board FFC (Figure 1-37). 3. Detach the tape (C). Then disconnect the stylus charger cable from the USB board connector (D) (Figure 1-37).

    LCD Panel Removal Prerequisite: LCD Module Removal 1. With the LCD panel facing down, pry the LCD cover to release latches as shown in Figure 1-39. Figure 1-39. LCD Panel Removal 2. Carefully lift the upper part of the LCD panel (A). Then continue releasing the remaining latches on the bottom side of the LCD panel (Figure 1-40).

  • Page 33 Top Assembly Removal (Keyboard Removal) Prerequisite: Ensure that the LCD Module, DC-IN Cable, Touchpad Module, Mainboard, USB Board, Speakers, and Stylus Holder have been disassembled prior removing the top assembly. NOTE: NOTE: The keyboard is included as part of the top assembly and can not be disassembled. In the event that the keyboard can no longer be used, replace the entire top assembly.
