    Section 1 : Introduction 1.01 Important information Thank you for choosing the Soil Instruments IPI Modular Data Logger. This manual has been written to help you install the IPI Modular Data Logger. Please read this manual thoroughly before use and keep it handy when installing the IPI Modular Data Logger.

    Section 2 : Assembly This section will describe the basic sequence of operations required to install the IPI Modular Data Logger. 2.01 Solar panel installation The solar panel has been pre-assembled onto its mounting brackets and only needs to be mounted onto the mounting pole.
  • Page 5: Solar/Relay Box Installation

    Remove the back of the logger and fit your 3FF (micro) sim card into the sim card slot. Refit the logger back panel and refit the logger to the back plate. Refit the back plate to the enclosure and reconnect the earth lead. Using the supplied U bolts secure the data logger box to the pole in the shade of the solar panel.

    2.05 Wiring Interconnections There are three fuse terminals in the solar/relay box, these should all be opened to disconnect the fuses before any wire connections are completed. Open a fuse holder by pulling up on the holder tab as shown below. One is in the left of the solar controller and the other two are on the right as shown below.
  • Page 7 Each fuse holder contains a spare fuse, the spare fuse can fall out easily, if the spare fuses fall out ensure they are note replaced in the incorrect holder as the fuses have different fuse ratings. Note where cables have an EMC screen or shield this should be terminated correctly in the EMC cable gland Remove the fuse from the + battery clamp lead as shown below and retain in a safe place.
  • Page 8 Insert the data logger power lead from the solar/relay box though the data logger power cable gland on the data logger box. Connect the terminals to the CHG + and – terminals on the data logger as shown below. User Manual...
  • Page 9 The conductor numbered 1 or coloured red is the positive + connection. Tighten the cable gland to secure the cable. Cut back the outer jacket on the end of the SW12+Data lead from the solar/relay box and prepare the conductors as shown below. User Manual...
  • Page 10 Insert the data logger SW12+Data lead from the solar/relay box into the data logger SW12+Data cable gland on the data logger box. The EMC shield and braid should protrude into the datalogger box as shown below with the cable gland EMC contacts pressing on the braid and not the outer jacket. Tighten the gland until it securely grips the cable.

    Terminate the conductors to the datalogger as bellow. Prepare the sensor cable in the same way as the SW12+Data cable and insert into the sensor gland on the solar/relay box. Ensure the cable gland EMC contacts are pressing on the braid/shield and not the outer jacket.
