  • Page 12 Often in a modern composition, the composer will intentionally make use of a percussive effect with the Paetzold keys. This is easily achieved by letting your fingers rapidly and forcefully fall onto the keys.
  • Page 13 Paetzold by Kunath square tenor. The double keys for tone holes 6a and 6b thus offer a clever solution here: Although the two holes are a bit far apart, they can be played comfortably with a small movement of the finger thanks to the double keys.
  • Page 14 Open-hole key The square tenor has a small hole in the thumb key. There is no second thumb key for overblowing on this instrument. The tenor is overblown by pressing the thumb key but leaving the small hole open. This is comparable to the half-hole technique on traditional recorders, where the thumb hole remains partially open for this purpose.
  • Page 15: Tuning And Fingering

Tuning and fingering Paetzold by Kunath square recorders are tuned to 442 Hz and largely follow traditional baroque fingering. With the purchase of each instrument, 2 tuning rings of differing thickness are included (with the exception of the square tenor, which comes with only one tuning ring, and the basset, for which both tuning rings are the same thickness).
  • Page 16: Care And Maintenance

Care and maintenance The surface of your square recorder To preserve and protect the surface, you should gently wipe down your bass recorder from time to time with a lint-free, clean cloth. A few drops of furniture polish on the cloth will help to maintain the silky shine and protect the finish from cracking.
  • Page 17 Disinfection If you share your instrument with other players from time to time or if several people play the same instrument, it is advisable to disinfect the mouthpiece regularly. We recommend Flautisept for this purpose; it is available in our online shop at: www.blockfloetenshop.de Flautisept is safe for player and recorder.

For maintenance purposes or a more extensive intervention, if necessary, the keys can also be removed for lubrication. Each set of keys is held in place by a two-part (split) axle. Please be aware that very small washers may be found between the individual keys and the bearing posts.

To reinsert these, make sure that the protrusion of the respective clamping sleeve is fitted into the corresponding recess on the telescopic leg.
