I have a Red earth Gecko - was wondering if it is possible to fill with power from grid when its wintery and possible storm is coming. Works great in outages obviously only if the battery is charged.

Yes, the RedEarth GCK-5-1 Series Gecko can be charged from the grid, as it includes connections to the grid and supports on-grid operation. This allows it to be charged during winter storms when solar generation may be limited.

Gecko – Installation and Operation Manual Step 2. Positioning The Gecko is designed as a freestanding weatherproof system (IP43). It should be installed in a shaded area to minimise the chance of overheating. If the system overheats past 45degC the power output will start to derate until it reaches 60degC at which point It will shut down.

  • Page 21: Troppo Battery Installation And Connection To The Inverter

Troppo battery installation and connection to the inverter on track here The Gecko has been tested and commissioned at the RedEarth factory. The batteries are then removed for transportation/positioning. Follow the procedure below to correctly re-install the batteries. This Gecko system operates at 48Vdc nominal, and batteries are connected in parallel to increase capacity, maintaining 48Vdc nominal.
  • Page 22 Note: if the system is not full of batteries, then some of the battery cables will remain unconnected. These are available for connecting additional batteries in the future. This is what makes the RedEarth Gecko system genuinely battery ready.
  • Page 23: Earth Fault Alarm

The Earth fault alarm is built into the system. If an earth fault is detected, then a loud audible alarm will sound from the inverter. The end customer needs to contact the installer to investigate the PV installation. If the customer has signed up to RedEarth Optimum, then the alarm signal will also be sent to RedEarth. Solar connection The Gecko systems each have two Maximum Power Point Trackers (MPPTs) The PV string configuration has been discussed explained previously in Step 3.

It runs directly off the 48V battery bank via a 48v to 12V DC/DC converter Both the RUT and DC/DC converter are shown at right.
