INTRODUCTION This chapter gives generic information about the Simcenter SCADAS XS. The purpose of this chapter is to inform the user about what the Simcenter SCADAS XS is meant for, and what the product comprises of. It is the responsibility of the user to use the Simcenter SCADAS XS in accordance with its purpose and intended use.
The Simcenter SCADAS XS systems must only be used for the specific purpose described above. Introduction WHAT DID YOU GET The Simcenter SCADAS XS is delivered along with a set of standard and optional accessories; the list below gives the relevant details. Each system is inspected and tested before shipment. The shipment that you received must contain the items that were ordered, undamaged and fully operational.
The information in this part is given as a guideline; we recommend that you act accordingly. In case you need to return parts to Siemens for repair, you are requested to contact your local Siemens representative first. You will be informed about the applicable procedures and follow-up.

Safety precautions. SAFETY PROVISIONS By design, the Simcenter SCADAS XS has a number of safety provisions to establish the required level of personal safety. Furthermore, the owner of the Simcenter SCADAS XS has the responsibility to provide a safe environment to work in.
It is not necessary to ground the Simcenter SCADAS XS, or use ESD strapping. The Simcenter SCADAS XS is designed to operate on internal battery power; it can also be powered and/or charged with appropriate adapters. When connected to a PC via USB, ignore any dialogs like ‘USB device detected’. When used in a vehicle, it is recommended to connect the Simcenter SCADAS XS to the cigarette-lighter with a USB adapter. Stable operation with the car's multimedia USB connection can vary, depending on the car manufacturer’s specification.
Testxpress will be in full control during data acquisition. In this mode of operation the Simcenter SCADAS XS is powered via the USB connection by the host PC and operates similar to other Simcenter SCADAS products. In case of a LAN connection, a PoE (Power over Ethernet) injector might be needed.

Chapter 4 Operation PREPARE FOR FIRST USE The Simcenter SCADAS XS is delivered with a built-in Li-Ion battery pack to support stand-alone operation. Charge the battery pack before use. The recommend charging method is to use the AC adapter/charger via the USB receptacle; this is also the fastest method.

Chapter 4 Operation TEMPLATES The Simcenter SCADAS XS is delivered with a micro SD card for template and data storage. Typically, this set-up is used for stand-alone operation. Note: In this paragraph the term Simcenter Application Software is used; it applies to the use of either Simcenter Testab or Simcenter Testxpress.
The Simcenter SCADAS XS is delivered with a binaural headset and several accessory cables to support recording and data acquisition. Typically, the former – recording – is done in stand-alone mode while the latter – straight forward data acquisition – is done when the Simcenter SCADAS XS is used for front-end operation.
