BASIC TECHNIQUES
With the steel/drill bit fitted, start the engine.
Hold the breaker/driller in both hands and adopt a
stable stance that gives a good view of the work
while keeping you clear of the steel.
Do not work in areas where you are forced to
stand on loose debris or on a slippery uneven
surface.
The engine is fitted with an automatic clutch, the
steel/drill bit will not operate if the engine is at idle.
Squeeze the throttle fully in and wait for the
engine to reach maximum revs.
On first contact with the surface, the steel/drill bit
will try to wander off line. Take great care until you
become familiar with the tool.
Begin breaking/drilling slowly, allowing the
steel/drill bit to mark the surface, this will stop the
steel/drill bit from wandering over the work surface and
causing unnecessary and expensive damage.
Never apply too much pressure, let the steel/drill
bit work at its own pace.
Lift the machine clear before releasing the throttle
and turning the engine OFF .
Wait for moving parts to stop before putting it aside.
If the steel/drill bit becomes jammed in the work
DO NOT use the machine as a lever. Tease the
steel/drill bit from the work by pushing then pulling.
If the steel/drill bit strikes a hidden object, stop the
machine immediately then check to make sure it is safe
to continue.
When breaking, concentrate on weak spots in the
structure you are breaking - mortar joints, cracks etc.
Alternatively, start close to an edge and gradually
work inward.
When drilling into hard material such as masonry,
withdraw the bit from time to time, keeping the drill
running, in order to cool it and the drill motor. This will
also clear waste from the hole.
When drilling large diameter holes with TCT bits,
drill a small pilot hole first then continue with a larger
bit, until the correct size is achieved.
Take your time, rushing a job tends to produce poor
results and increases the risk of a serious accident.
Don't overdo it - you are more likely to have an accident
if you are suffering from fatigue.
EQUIPMENT CARE
Never push the equipment beyond its design
limits. If it will not do what you want with reasonable
ease, assume you have the wrong type or size machine
for the job. Contact your local HSS Hire Shop for advice.
Keep the equipment clean, you will find this less of a
chore if you clean it regularly, rather than wait until the
end of the hire period.
Regularly check the fuel level and top up as
necessary using 2-stroke oil and unleaded petrol mixed
as directed on the 2-stroke oil container.
Keep the fuel tank filler cap securely closed at all
times. If fuel should leak, mop up any spillages and
contact our local HSS Hire Shop for advice.
Avoid hitting or dropping the machine. Its casing
will be damaged by a heavy blow.
When not in use, store the equipment somewhere
clean, dry and safe from thieves.
FINISHING OFF
Lift the machine clear before releasing the throttle
and turning the engine OFF .
Wait for moving parts to stop before putting it aside.
Remove the steel/drill bit and give the unit a final
clean ready for return to your local HSS Hire Shop.
