Read this Instruction Manual carefully in order to make full use of the high
performance capabilities of the product.
Do not use the product in methods other than described in this Manual.
This Manual only describes hardware operation of the PCD-400A.

    SAFETY PRECAUTIONS (Do not forget to read the safety precautions prior to use.) The PCD-400A is designed to be used according to "8. Specifications." Do not use the PCD-400A in an environment exceeding the specifications. Or, it may cause trouble.

When using the optional AC adapter, check the voltage range of the AC power outlet before connecting.

    Failure to do so will pose the risk of erroneous data, malfunction and failure. ● Do not disassemble or remodel the PCD-400A. Or, it may cause electric shock hazards or damage the PCD-400A. This warranty does not cover any damaged or defective parts that results from disassembling or remodeling.
  • Page 9: Pcd-400A Replacement Before The End Of Service Life

    Preventive maintenance and replacement parts are a cost-effective way of keeping the performance and extending the service life of the PCD-400A. Regardless of the replacement parts, the PCD-400A itself gradually deteriorates with age. Before the expected service life is reached, consider replacing the PCD- 400A with a new one or the latest series as preventive maintenance.

    5. Do not connect multiple sets of stacking PCD-400A units into one PC. Be sure to connect single set of stacking PCD-400A units (The number of stacking units: 2 to 4) into one 6. When stacking multiple PCD-400A units, connect the AC adapter to the master unit only.

    1. OUTLINE OF THE PRODUCT 1-1 OUTLINE OF THE PRODUCR The PCD-400A is a measuring instrument that can be used with no difficulty by connecting to the PC via USB interface. The PCD-400A can execute small-scale measurement of up to 16 channels by stacking 4 PCD-400A units.

When mounting the input adapter, fasten the jackscrews. Tightly fasten the jackscrews with a flat-head screwdriver. Common to all input adapters.

    MEMO When stacking multiple PCD-400A units, the unit located on the top is master unit (1CH to 4CH), the second unit from the top is slave 1 (5CH to 8CH), the third unit from the top is slave 2 (9CH to 12CH), and the forth unit from the top is slave 3 (13CH to 16CH).

    ● When stacking multiple PCD-400A units, be sure to remove the AC adapter. Or, it may cause trouble. ● You can stack up to 4 PCD-400A units. Do not stack 5 or more PCD-400A units. Example: Procedures for stacking 2 PCD-400A units (1) Remove 2 screws on the connector cover on the front panel and remove 4 screws on the side panel.

    ● For wiring, use Kyowa's low-noise lead wire with shield (L-13, 14, 15, and 16) or 4-conductor shielded cables. In addition, locate the transducer far apart from power lines and wirings interfered with noise.

    3-3-3 Procedures for connecting lead wires To connect sensors (not terminated with connector plug on the lead wire head), including strain gages: Peel off the coating from the lead wire head approximately 9 to 1 mm for connection. To connect sensors (terminated with NDIS connector plug on the lead wire head), including strain gage transducer: Use the following input adapters.
  • Page 27 (4) Gently pull the lead wire to check if it is securely inserted. NOTE ● For connection, always use the accessory small flat-head screwdriver or equivalent. ● When inserting/removing the accessory small flat-head screwdriver, do not swing it up and down more than necessary.

  • Page 30: Mount/Demount The Input Adapter

    To demount the input adapter UI-10A, UI-11A, UI-15A, or UI-16A, remove the jackscrews. To mount the input adapter UI-10A, UI-11A, UI-15A, or UI-16A, joint the PCD-400A connector and input adapter connector correctly and fasten the jackscrews. Tightly fasten the jackscrews with a flat-head screwdriver.

    (3) If the product is used at job site where induction motors, electric welder and other devices that generate noise are used, power supply condition may be insufficient due to noise. It is recommended to use KYOWA’s insulation transformer (optional: UPT-300B) or noise cut transformer.

    Before connecting the DC power, check the power voltage. The power supply voltage range of the PCD-400A is 11 to 16 VDC. Be sure to keep the voltage range. Use the DC power 48W or more. (Capable of stacking the 4 PCD-400A units with 48W.) Supply DC power with the optional DC power cable (model: P-76).

    SETUP THE USB DEVICE DRIVER To control the PCD-400A via the USB interface, it is necessary to setup the USB device driver for the PCD- 400A in the PC. NOTE ● When setting up the USB device driver, log in to the Administrator account (e.g. Administrator).

    3-8 POWER ON/OFF Press the POWER switch on the PCD-400A front panel to the '|' side to turn ON and, to the '○' side to turn OFF the PCD-400A. The "POWER" LED on the front panel lights up green while the PCD-400A is ON and the PCD-400A is working successfully.

To compensate the above error, multiply the measured value by the compensation coefficient (calibration coefficient).
