Viewing the Display FOMA terminal has a main display and a sub display. You can view the current status when the power is turned on or when setting a function etc. The display is lit temporarily when a key is pressed. Default setting is “15 seconds” (nP.176 in <Basic>).

Multiaccess/Assistant View Multiaccess/Assistant View The FOMA terminal is capable of making voice calls and certain packet transmissions (receiving i-mode and data communication with PC connection) simultaneously. This is called Multiaccess (nP.255 in <Basic>). Besides Multiaccess, the FOMA can receive SMS messages during calls and other communication. i-mode and sending i-mode mail cannot be used during a call.
Number of Entries That Can Be Saved, Registered and Protected on the FOMA Terminal You can save/register and protect sent/received SMS messages, i-mode mail, received Message R/F messages, bookmarks, screen memos, URL history, downloaded i-appli software and i-motion. Below are the maximum possible entries that can be saved (refer to the corresponding pages for function details).

FOMA Card Restriction Function FOMA Card (UIM) Restriction Function In order to protect data and files, the FOMA terminal has a FOMA card restriction function. When data and files are retrieved or i-αppli is activated in the following ways as a FOMA card is inserted, they will automatically have FOMA card restrictions set.

i-mode What is i-mode? In i-mode, online services such as site (program) access and Internet access can be used from your i-mode mail and i-mode compatible FOMA terminal display. Accessing sites (programs) With simple key operations, this service enables you to access a variety of sites provided by IPs (information service providers).

What is i-mode? When changing service subscriptions from mova (i-mode subscription) to FOMA, the Note contents of My Menu used in the mova service will be transferred. Some sites can not be transferred to the FOMA My Menu. In such case, please register the information again.

What is i-mode? Site (Program) Access Service Simple key operations allow you to connect to i-mode compatible sites and use a variety of online services provided by IPs. For instance, there are online services for checking your bank balance or transferring funds, reserving tickets, reading news, searching in dictionaries, and downloading ring tones among others.
What is i-mode? i-mode terminal i-mode center i-motion News video, audio, etc. There are two ways to download i-motion applications; packet transmission via the i-mode center, and digital communication that does not go via the center. Movie ringtone You can download i-motion from i-mode sites to your i-mode terminal and set them as the ring tone and incoming call image.

The character responds to noise and moves its mouth, and you can make it move about with key operations.

What is i-mode? SSL session Short for Secure Sockets Layer, SSL is a protocol that uses authentication/encryption technology to ensure safe data communication and protection of privacy. Encryption before being transmitted to or from the SSL page prevents eavesdropping, spoofing, or overwriting.

My Menu Registering to My Menu By registering frequently used sites from the Menu List in iMenu, you can easily connect to them from the next time. You can register up to 45 sites in My menu. Internet webpages cannot be registered. In addition, some sites cannot be registered to My menu.
Changing Your i-mode Password Displaying Sites Registered to My Menu In the stand-by, press i1. iMenu is displayed. Press 1, select a site, and then press t. The site page is displayed. Change i-mode Password Changing Your i-mode Password Your “i-mode password” (4 digit number) is needed when you register to or delete from My menu, subscribe to or cancel Message R/F messages or charged i-mode sites, or when you perform mail settings.

Displaying Internet Webpages Redisplaying the Webpage with the Correct Characters When the characters on a webpage are not displayed correctly, you can convert to the correct character code and redisplay the page. Press C8 while a site or Internet webpage is displayed (nSteps 1 to 3 on P.33 and P.34, steps 1 and 2 on P.43).
Bookmark Using Bookmarks By registering the URLs of sites and Internet webpages you frequently visit to the Bookmark, you can quickly view those pages again. You can add folders and sort bookmarks into various categories. When registering site or Internet webpage URLs containing images or melodies as bookmarks, some sites or Internet webpages may not be displayed from the bookmark.

Save Images Downloading Images from Sites and Message R/F Messages You can save your favorite images and Flash movie frames on sites, Internet webpages, or Message R/F messages. The saved images and frames can be set as the stand-by display (nP.165 in <Basic>). Images are saved in the “Other still pic”...
Save Frames Downloading Frames from Sites You can download frames from sites and save them. These frames can also be used to edit still pictures and for shooting pictures with the camera. Downloaded frames are saved in the “Item” folder under “Image” of the Multimedia. Refer to P.265 for information on editing still pictures using frames.
Display Flash Movie Displaying Flash Movies You can display Flash movies with your FOMA terminal. Flash movies can also be saved in “Image” of the Multimedia, and set as the stand- by display (nP.259 in <Application>, P.165 in <Basic>). Display the site, webpage or saved screen memo containing the Flash movie ( Steps 1 to 3 on P.33 and P.34, steps 1 and 2 on P.43 and steps 1 and 2 on P.50 and P.51).
Downloading Data Files from Sites Press 2 (Save). The screen to save melodies is displayed. To not save Press 3. Press 1 (Play all). When set as the ring tone, the entire melody is played. This feature may not be available on some sites or Internet webpages. If two or more addresses are displayed in a series, you may not be able to use the Mail To function.

What is ISP connection transmission? By switching your FOMA terminal host, you can connect to various Internet Service Providers (ISP).

Operating Certificates Setting the CA Certificate (Able/Disable) <CA Certificates> The following certificates are necessary when viewing SSL supported sites. A CA (Certification Authority) certificate is a certificate issued by a certifier. It is already stored in your FOMA terminal at the time of purchase. A DoCoMo CA certificate is a certificate that is required when connecting to the FirstPass center or FirstPass supported sites.

Operating Certificates Note Using FirstPass FirstPass refers to the DoCoMo electronic authentication service. Through FirstPass, certificates are exchanged between a site and a FOMA terminal with each party able to verify the authenticity of the other’s certificate, making client authentication possible.

For example, you can enjoy playing various games downloaded to your i-mode terminal, or get the latest information on your stock portfolio with an i-appli that automatically updates stock prices at regular intervals.

Download Downloading Software You can download i-appli software from various sites and Internet webpages and run them on your FOMA terminal display. You can save between 10 and 100 items of software. (The actual number depends on the size of the software.) While displaying a site or Internet webpage (nSteps 1 to 3 on P.33 and P.34, and steps 1 and 2 on P.43), select the software, and then press t.

Downloading Software Downloading mail-linked i-appli Keep the following points in mind when downloading mail-linked i-αppli software. When mail-linked i-αppli software is downloaded, folders for the software are created automatically in the Inbox, Outbox, and Unsent messages folder. The folders are saved using the name of the downloaded mail-linked i-αppli, and the name cannot be changed.
Run i-appli Running i-appli i-appli software saved in the FOMA terminal will run (start). Some i-αppli software automatically transmit when started. You can set network communication settings (nP.82) in advance to not communicate, or set to ask whether or not to connect when you run the software. In the stand-by, press i for at least 1 second.

Running i-appli Note To run i-appliDX To check the validity of the software, some i-αppliDX may communicate regardless of software network communication settings. (The timing and frequency of the communication vary depending on the software.) The software will not be run or tested for validity if the date and time are not set. If the i-αppli is invalidated, it cannot be run until validity can be checked.

Software Description Viewing Software Information Information such as the name of the software, version, save area, profile version, supported models, Auto start time and SSL connection is displayed. The displayed i-αppli software name cannot be changed. In the stand-by, press i for at least 1 second, and then press 1. The software list is displayed.
Running i-appli from Sites or i-mode Mail Running i-appli from Sites or i-mode Mail <i-appli To> i-αppli can be activated if i-αppli To (i-αppli startup settings) is set in sites, webpages, Message R/F or i-mode mail. If i-αppli To is set to “No”, i-αppli To will not start. You cannot set i-αppli To as an i-αppli stand-by display.
Auto Start Running i-appli Automatically There are 2 types of i-appli auto start. Auto start from software Auto start function that is already preset in the software. Set to auto start in the FOMA terminal Set Auto start settings by setting the time/date/day to i-αppli saved on the FOMA terminal. This section describes settings of auto start for the FOMA terminal.

To change the auto start schedule Select the number you wish to change, press t, and then press 1 (Change). Setting Software Operations You can set i-appli operations for each software. Enabling or Disabling Communication This sets each software whether communication is allowed while i-αppli is in progress. These settings apply only to software that uses communication. The default setting is “Yes” (Communicate), and at time of software download is “Confirm every session”.

Setting i-appli Stand-by Display Allowing Changes to Ring Tone and Display In i-αppli, you can set whether to allow changes to be made to the ring tone and display, and whether or not to display a confirmation screen when making such changes. If you allow these, you can automatically make changes to the ring tone and display from i-αppli.

Managing i-appli Software Upgrading i-appli Software When the new version for i-αppli saved in your FOMA terminal is available in a site, you can upgrade the software. In the stand-by, press i for at least 1 second, and then press 1. The software list is displayed.

Viewing the Error Display When deleting mail-linked i-αppli, you can choose whether or not to delete mail folders that Note were automatically created. However, if there is protected i-mode mail in the folders, the software and folders will not be deleted.
