Installing the Enphase Communications Kit
The Enphase Communications Kit (COMMS-KIT-EU-01) contains a wireless USB kit for connection to an Enphase IQ Gateway Metered. The kit enables wireless
communication between the IQ Gateway Metered and IQ Battery 3T/10T storage devices. Note that you must install the communications kit to ensure that the
energy management system is functional. The kit includes a 2.4 GHz wireless radio. This guide is intended for use by competent installation personnel.
Preparation

The IQ Gateway requires the Enphase Communications Kit to commu-
nicate with the IQ Batteries. You must install the communications kit
before commissioning the system.
Install the Enphase Communications Kit

NOTE: Do not install the Enphase Communications Kit within a
metal enclosure.
To install the communications kit adjacent to an IQ Gateway, do the
following:
A ) Select a mounting location near the IQ Gateway, so that the USB
cable on the communications kit can reach the IQ Gateway.
B ) Plug the free end of the USB cable into a USB port on the IQ Gate-
way.
C ) You can use screws to mount the communications kit to the wall
or a board. Use one screw in each of the two recesses of the kit. To
avoid damaging the kit housing, do not over tighten the screws. You
can also use cable ties to secure the communications kit as per site
requirement.

Enabling connectivity via Enphase Installer App
You must upgrade the IQ Gateway software to version 7.x.x or higher to
work with the Enphase Communications Kit (COMMS-KIT-EU-01).
A ) Use the Enphase Installer App to upgrade the IQ Gateway to the
latest version (7.x.x or higher). Follow the commissioning procedure
to ensure the IQ Gateway software is updated.

NOTE: The IQ Gateway software update process may take up to 30
minutes. Please follow the software update process provided in the
IQ Gateway QIG. During this time the IQ Gateway will reboot multiple
times.
B ) Post the software upgrade, you can begin provisioning of devices.
During the provisioning, with your mobile device in hand, walk from
the IQ Gateway toward the IQ Battery. This helps to ensure that all
devices are provisioned using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

Starting near the IQ Gateway, walk to the IQ Battery units.
Enphase Installer App shows the IQ Battery units as Not Discov-
ered while the circle next to these devices spins indicating that the
Enphase Installer App is searching for available devices.

Wait near the IQ Battery units until the Enphase Installer App
shows them as Waiting for Provisioning.

Return to the IQ Gateway. All devices should show as Waiting
for Acknowledgment. Enphase Installer App is waiting for the IQ
Gateway to confirm communication with the IQ Battery units.

Wait until all devices show as Provisioned.
•
The IQ Battery units are ready to communicate with the IQ Gate-
way.
C ) If the communications kit is not recognized by the IQ Gateway, the
provisioning of devices will not be successful. To resolve this issue,
reboot the IQ Gateway and try provisioning again.
Verifying wireless communication after

commissioning
After commissioning, you can verify the
wireless communication between the IQ
Gateway and other components using the
Enphase Installer App.
A ) Navigate to Devices & Array > IQ Battery
> <serial number>.
B ) You can see the signal strength of the
communication between the Enphase
Communications Kit (COMMS-KIT-
EU-01) and the IQ Battery under Wire-
less Communication Kit as shown.
