5. OPERATIONS
CONTROLS AND INDICATORS
The disk drive storage unit houses two types of controls
and indicators: one group for use by the operator, and
one group for troubleshooting and preventive maintenance
use by a customer service engineer (CE). The following
sections describe the two groups.
OPERATOR CONTROL PANEL
:
The operator pushbutton controls and I ighted indicators
are located on a horizontal panel on the front of the disk
storage unit (see Figure 18). The controls and indicators
serve these functions:

Function
When all conditions for starting disk
spin (see below) are satisfied, depres-
sion causes the disk to start. Depres-
sion while the disk is spinning causes
the disk to stop. Illumination of the
START backlight indicates the disk is
spinning, whereas illumination of the
READY backlight indicates the device
is ready to transfer data.
These are the conditions for starting
disk spin:
Disk pack is installed .
Disk pack cover is removed.
Storage unit top cover is closed .

AC and DC power are 0 N.
Illumination of the FAULT backlight
indicates a fault condition has occurred
anq must be cleared before the device
will become operational. Momentary
depression causes the fol lowing actions:
Resets any nonpersistent fou It con-
dition.
Resets device release and attention
'
interrupt flag bit if it is set.
Causes the device to report "not op-
erationa I" during the duration of
the depression.
Terminates any function currently
in process.
Illuminal"ion of the READ ONLY back-
light indicates the device is write-
protected. Alternate action switch.
Depression inhibits writing on the en-
tire pock. Depression whi I e the pack
is write-inhibited releases the write-
inhibition.
Illumination of the ATTENTION back-
