Amp-Master™ AM-LV-1000 User’s Manual 1. OVERVIEW 1.1 INTRODUCTION The Amp-Master™ AM-LV-1000 is a low-voltage current recorder that is installed onto LV power cables where it measures and stores a profile of the currents flowing. The device has three flexible current transformers for performing 3-phase measurements. The device ships with PC-based software which is used to configure the unit as well as to download and view recorded data.
Amp-Master™ AM-LV-1000 User’s Manual 1.2 FEATURES • 1000A full scale current • 1A resolution • 2%-5% typical accuracy • 3 overload-proof current sensors • Large memory • Long battery operating life • Battery healthy monitor • Software for device configuration and downloading •...
Amp-Master™ AM-LV-1000 User’s Manual 3. OPERATION 3.1 CURRENT MEASUREMENT The recorder has three current sensors each consisting of a rogowski coil encapsulated inside polypropylene tubing. Each sensor is installed on the conductor under measurement by disconnecting the tube from the T-piece and wrapping it around the conductor and then reconnecting the T-piece.
Amp-Master™ AM-LV-1000 User’s Manual 3.3.2 MEMORY FULL CONDITION At some point during recording, the recorder may completely fill its internal memory with data. The recorder can be programmed to either stop recording when out of memory, or to continue recording by wrapping around to the start of memory and overwriting the oldest recorded data with the most recent data.
Amp-Master™ AM-LV-1000 User’s Manual real-time clock onboard that is set to the computer’s clock whenever the recorder is programmed. The advantage of this recording mode is that the recorder can be set up in advance to start and stop recording automatically. It can be programmed many days or weeks in advance and then handed over to the installation crew.
Amp-Master™ AM-LV-1000 User’s Manual A USB-to-RS232 converter can be used on PC’s which do not have a serial port. The driver for the converter enables the USB port to be used as a virtual serial port by the application software. When data is sent from the recorder to the computer, this action is referred to as a download.
Amp-Master™ AM-LV-1000 User’s Manual 4.2 SOFTWARE INSTALLATION Insert the Amp-Master™ CD into the CD ROM drive. The CD has an autorun feature to automatically start the software installation. Amp-Master™ AM-LV-1000 User’s Manual Based on this capacity the form also displays the estimated life of the battery. The battery voltage is also monitored and displayed. If the battery voltage drops below 3.4V the form will indicate that the battery is unhealthy and requires replacement. FIGURE 7: BATTERY STATUS FORM 5.
Amp-Master™ AM-LV-1000 User’s Manual 6.1 CALIBRATION EQUIPMENT Calibration equipment is required which can source, control and measure an injection current of 1000A. The ideal equipment would be a digital current injection set (similar to that used to test protection relays) with an amplifier capable of injecting 1000A. An alternative example would be a mains-powered variac rated 230V,10A being used to control the primary voltage on a 5KVA mains transformer with a single-turn secondary.
