TO OIL THE MACHINE
When the machine is received from the factory,
it should be thoroughly cleaned and oiled.
Use "TYPE A" or "TYPE C" oil,
sold by
Singer
Sewing
Machine
Company.
See
inside front
cover of this book for description of these oils.
Fig. 2
Before starting machine, fill oil reservoir until
the oil
level is between the two marks on dip stick
A, Fig. 2.
NOTE:
This method of filling reservoir with
correct amount of oil also applies to machines set in
an oblique position.
Oil the wick of the needle bar connection link
through the take-up slot B.
Also apply oil to the places indicated by the
unlettered arrows in Fig. 2.
NOTE:
When machine is
in continuous use,
check the oil level in the reservoir at least twice daily.
Every few weeks apply oil to the bobbin wind¬
er spindle.
See Fig. 5.
TO REGULATE THE OIL FLOW TO
THE HOOK POST
The amount of oil received by the hook post
is regulated by screw C, Fig. 2.
To
regulate,
remove the two
screws
in the
base cover and slide the hook post base cover to the
right as shown in Fig. 2.
For full
lubrication, turn
screw C in as far as it will go.
For less lubrication,
turn
screw C out.
For most types of sewing, keep
screw C one full turn out.
SPEED
Machines of Class 236W will run at speeds up
to 3000 revolutions per minute, but it is advisable to
run a new machine at a more moderate speed for the
first few days.
NEEDLES
Needles for 236W Machines are of Class and
Variety 128 x 6, and are made in Sizes 10, 11, 12, 13,
14, 15, 16, 18, 20, 22, 23 and 24.
The size of the needle to be used should be
determined by the size of the thread which must pass
freely through the eye of the needle.
Rough or uneven
thread or thread which passes with difficulty through
the eye of the needle will interfere with the successful
use of the machine.
Orders for needles must specify the Quantity
required, the Size number, and the Class and Variety
numbers separated by an x.
For example: "100 No. 14, 128 x 6 Needles
NOTE:
When ordering
leather point needles,
indicate point style desired, otherwise needles will be
furnished with standard point style "reverse twist".
The
best
results
will
be obtained
by using
the needles sold by Singer Sewing Machine Company.
