TO REMOVE AND REPLACE
THE SEWING HOOK
Remove bobbin
case cap and bobbin as
in¬
structed on page 4.
Remove the hook gib screw V2,
Fig. 24 and swing back the gib to allow base of bob¬
bin case to be taken out.
Remove screw W2 from the
center of the hook.
Tap hook slightly on the bottom of
its rim to force it from its socket.
Do not try to pry it
out, as prying may b^nd the shank of the hook.

When replacing hook, be
sure the prongs of
the shank enter thelslot at the bottom of the socket,

otherwise the hook will be out of time.
Then replace
and tighten screw W2.

NEEDLE GUARD
The function of the needle guard X2 is to pre¬
vent the point of the hook from striking the needle, if,
when passing through the material, the needle is de¬
flected toward the hook.
The upright portion of the needle guard should
be sprung with a screwdriver until it prevents the hook
point from striking the needle.
It should not, however,
be sprung out enough to deflect the needle from its
normal path.
TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE
ROLLER PRESSER DRIVING BELT (UPPER)
Raise roller presser.
Remove clamping nut
K2,
Fig. 2).
Remove arm top cover and face plate.
Remove adjusting rod C by lifting rod up and out of
socket D.
Slip belt off spreader cone E.
Raise idler
pulley bracket F, insert a screwdriver in between re¬
taining rings G and spindle H, then twist the screw¬
driver and the rings will snap out.
With a brass drift
pin, tap spindle H free of bracket F, this will release
i^l»r mil levs J and the belt can be removed.
To
replace,
slip belt M
into belt pulley of
roller presser K, up under idler pulley bracket F and
over spreader cone E.
Insert spindle H through bracket
F
and pulleys J, being certain that the pulleys are
under belt M.
Slip retaining rings G into position and,
with
a
screwdriver, push rings until they snap into
the spindle slot.
Insert spring end of adjusting rod C
into hole N, then push rod C up and slip its lower end
into socket D.
Adjust belt tension by turning nut P
counterclockwise
to
increase
tension
or clockwise
to
decrease
tension.
Replace face plate, arm top
cover and clamping nut.
