TO ADJUST THREAD TAKE-UP SPRING
The take-up spring S2, Fig. 23 should usually
have just enough movement so that it will be through
acting and will rest against upper end of spring reg¬
ulator
R2 when
needle
is
1/16 inch above material
on its downward stroke.
The spring should act a slight
amount as the thread passes around the bottom of the
hook
and
also
as the thread
is
cast off the hook.
To
set take-up
spring,
loosen
set screw
and, by means of stud U2, position spring regulator
required.
Then tighten screw T2.

that it touches the bobbin case Q2 as lightly as pos¬

Then tighten screws N2 and

To regulate
tension
on take-up spring, first
be sure screw T2 is tight.
Then turn stud U2 over to
the left to increase tension or over to therightto de¬
crease' tension.
The take-up spring may require different ten¬
sion
settings
for
different
sizes
of
thread;
heavy
thread requires more tension than light thread.
The above instructions apply to average sew¬
ing.
Adjustments
in both
stroke and
tension
may
have to be made to suit special conditions.
