Trying to install Doheny 3HP variable pump for neighbor who ordered it directly from Doheny. Her old Hayward single speed pump had a flip on-off wall switch leg on the 220 circuit. When I flip on the leg, the Doheny beeps 5 times, quickly displays what appears to be "295", and kicks the 220 breaker. Pump came with a very limited installation manual. Are there any safety locks or packing items not mentioned in the manual that need to be removed prior to operation? Does the switch leg need to be bypassed and wire the 220 directly to the unit because the new Doheny is programmable? I've matched white to white, black to black and the ground to the grounding screw under the keypad.

Installation requirements and safety considerations for the Doheny's 3HP variable pump model 90950 include:

1. Power Safety: Always disconnect power at the circuit breaker before servicing the pump to avoid electric shock, injury, or death.

2. Lid Positioning: Ensure the lid marked “Front” is positioned at the front of the pump to avoid improper sealing, which may cause injury or damage.

3. Strainer Pot: Do not open the strainer pot if the pump fails to prime or has operated without water. This could result in scalding from vapor pressure buildup. Ensure the strainer pot is cool and suction/discharge valves are open before opening.

4. Relieving Pressure: Open the filter air relief valve and wait for a steady stream of water before closing it to safely relieve system pressure.

5. Pump Reassembly:
- Use tools such as an adjustable wrench and screwdrivers.
- Place the seal plate with “UP” at the top.
- Tighten motor bolts in a criss-cross pattern to 70–80 in-lbs.
- Hold the motor shaft while installing the impeller and impeller screw to prevent spinning.

6. Digital Inputs: Disconnect any digital or communication cables before service.

7. Drain Plugs: Remove both drain plugs from the bottom of the strainer pot during disassembly.

These steps help ensure safe and correct installation and maintenance of the pump.
