BATTERY CONNECTION

• Before connecting and disconnecting the charging clamps, the charger must be switched off or the mains plug must be
pulled out of the socket.
Do not allow the loading clamps to touch each other.
CAUTION: A spark near the battery can cause a battery explosion:
Sparking near the battery is avoided by observing the following points:
Connection of the charger to a battery mounted in the vehicle:
• Lay AC and DC cables so that there is no risk of damage from the hood, door, or moving motor parts.
• Check the polarity of the battery terminals. The POSITIVE (POS, P, +) battery terminal has
usually has a larger diameter than the NEGATIVE (NEG, N,-).
• Determine which pole is grounded (connected to the chassis). Normally, the negative pole is grounded.
• Charging a battery grounded to the negative terminal: connect the red cable to the positive terminal of the battery and the
black cable to the chassis of the vehicle.
Please make sure that the black cable is not connected near the battery, carburetor, fuel lines or other sheet metal parts.
• Charging a battery grounded to the positive terminal: Connect the black cable to the negative terminal of the battery and
the red cable to the chassis of the vehicle. Please make sure that the red cable is not connected near the battery, carburetor,
fuel lines or other sheet metal parts.
• Before disconnecting the charging clamps from the battery terminals, turn off the charger and remove the power cord.
Connection of the charger to a battery not mounted in the vehicle:
• Check the polarity of the battery terminals. The POSITIVE (POS, P, +) battery terminal has
usually has a larger diameter than the NEGATIVE (NEG, N,-).
• Connect the red cable to the positive terminal of the battery and the black cable to the negative terminal. If the battery
cables are connected incorrectly, a protective circuit prevents damage to either the charger or the battery.
• When switching off the charger, always proceed in the opposite order to the connection.
