Fam1l 1ar1 ze yourself with lh e front panel
conlrols Ther e ar e six knobs and ten
push buttons controlling th e fun c tions of
th e receiver. E· ch con rol p erforms a
dilferen t fun c tion. But instead of
d iscussing each control separ ately, we
will illu strate how lhey work together to
cont rol th e repro duc tion of soun d through
the 730. Fin d the VOLUME control and
turn it down (countercloc kwise) . Push th e
POWER switch to turn the 730 on. The red
power in dic ator will lighl.
Playing Records with the 730
Fou r bas ic con trols are used to pl ay
back disc rec ordings through the 730
FUNCTION, VOLU ME, BALANCE, and
SP KRS- 1, Mak e the follow ing
ad1ustmenls to these conlrols after
activating your turntable or record
changer

You should now hear sound from lhe
disc through you r s stem To increase or
decrease he loudness of he playbac ,
the VOLUM E con tra ma be advan ced
(clockwise) or turned down
(counterclock wise) . The BAL ANCE
control ii turne coun tercl ockwise 111 shift
the loudnes to the left spe er by
attenuating (reducing the oudness) th e
right speaker When turned 1n he o her
d1rec ion, it has t11e opposite effect. The
SPK RS-1 oushbutton connect s or dele ts
the speak rs connec ted to SPEAKER
SYST EM 1 [II you h e speakc s
connected to SPEAKER SYSTEM 2, they
are controlled by the
SPKRS-2
pushbutlon on t1Ie front panel).

If you do not g et sound at Ih 1 s poin t,
check th e on trol ositior s g iven. Also, be
sure th a both ape monitor switch es are in
the· out" posit ion. Leave the volu me
control at th e 9 o·c 1ock position while you
are ad1usti ng the o her con rols. If you still
get no sou nd , check the bac k p anel
c nnec tions for PHON O, then c eek th e
turntable itself.
Note : Whenever you check
connections at the back panel , always
push the POWER switch off.
Now hat you're listening to sound you
can ch ec k the phasing of your speak ers.
While pl ying as er o disc , depress the
MONO p ushbutton swilch and positio n
your self midway between the lef t an d right
spea k r systems. fa c in g them . Th e sourc e
of sou n sl1ould now appear to be coming
from a po int d ir ec ly ahead of you,
cenlered between the two speakers. If the
sound has no clear cu t cen tered image.
you did not con nec t he sp aker sys em s
correctly. Push the
POWER
switch off
Recheck your connec tions bolh at the rear
of th e 730 nd at lhe terminals of bott1
spea kers . If you are us ing wo dissimilar
speakers . it is possible th t their 1nlernal
connections have opposite polarily,

the connections made at the speak r or
he receiver (NOT BOTH ) for one channel
ONL Y The system should now be in
phasG . Push 1he MONO sw1 tcl1 to return it
I stereo (o t) posit ion .

The phasing test can be done
with
any
program material , but d isc rec ord ings are
recommended. Stereo mater ial is
sugg ested to make the effec t more
obviou s.
If at averag e listening level s, you hear
an obj ec tionab le (i e , easily aud ible)
amount of hum , tr y disconnec ting the
grou nd wi re from the turnt a le to th e 730.
Some turntabieicartr1 dge combin ations
actually produce less hu m thrs way .
Anot er source of hum is inadequate
seating of the inpu signal c ables in he
rece ptacles o the 730 Check all cable
seating carefull y.
