APPLICATION

The MC 950 is a flexible true condenser microphone with switchable -15 dB attenuation and low-cut filter. If you appreciate a clear sound and high impulse fidelity of small-diaphragm condenser microphones, our MC 950 is the right choice.

Due to its largely linear frequency response with gentle treble boost, the MC 950 microphone is suitable for use with a variety of signal sources such as piano, choir, orchestra or solo instruments of any kind. Due to its supercardioid polar pattern, the MC 950 can be used where sound from the rear is to be reliably attenuated, as it provides the most effective sound suppression at 140° and 220°.

The microphone also delivers excellent results for speech and vocal recordings - we recommend the optionally available WS 101 wind shield for speech and vocal recordings from a short distance as well as for outdoor recordings.

INSTALLATION AND OPERATION

Connection

  • The MC 950 is equipped with a 3-pin XLR connector. You can connect it to any microphone input with phantom power (11 - 52 V) with a suitable microphone cable. Activate phantom power for this purpose.

  • Carelessly laid cables are a trip hazard. People can be injured and the microphone can be damaged.

Operation

  • In contrast to the MC 930, the MC 950 has a supercardioid polar pattern. In order to avoid feedback and noise as much as possible, you should position the microphone so that monitor speakers and other sources of interference radiate onto the microphone from behind (angle 140°). This is where the MC 950 provides the best possible attenuation.
  • Adjusting the pre-attenuation
For higher sound pressure levels, you can use the right slide switch on the front of the microphone to switch on a pre-attenuation of 15 dB (imprint -15 dB).
  • Adjusting the low-cut filter
If a directional microphone (pressure gradient receiver) is used for short-range recordings, a physically induced increase in the low-frequency sound components occurs, which is refered to a proximity effect. In order to compensate this effect, the MC 930 has a switchable low-cut filter below 250 Hz on the front (left) with 6 dB per octave.
  • The MC 930 is supplied with the MA-CL 21 microphone clamp for tripods with 3/8" thread. For tripods with a 5/8" thread, you can unscrew the threaded insert.

  • A tripod with an insecure stand can fall over and damage a microphone mounted on it. Make sure the tripod stands stable.

MAINTENANCE

  • Use a soft cloth moistened with water to clean the microphone shaft.
  • Make sure that no water enters the microphone.
  • Do not use cleaning agents containing solvents.
