'57 Custom Champ®

The tweed-covered Fender Champ amp of the 1950s is well known as the small-but-mighty tone machine that belongs in every serious guitarist's collection. It's a terrific practice amp, simple and pure, and is also prized by countless pro players for its recording studio indispensability.

The '57 Custom Champ continues that glorious legacy, with all-tube hand-wired circuitry and premium components. It features the classic 5F1 design, delivering about 5 watts of output power easily pushed into warm, compressed distortion. A U.S.made Weber® 8" alnico speaker is voiced for rich and dynamic response, and new reverse-engineered '50s vintage "Yellow" tone capacitors add subtly nuanced tonal magic. Along with custom transformers, a single "chicken-head" volume control, finger-joined solid pine cabinet, lacquered tweed covering and more, the result is a richly rewarding Champ amplifier experience that's pure Fender.

Control Panel

1. POWER SWITCH: Turns amplifier on and off.
2. POWER JEWEL: Illuminates while amplifier is on.
3. VOLUME: Adjusts volume level for both inputs.
4. INPUT 1: Plug instrument in here. Full-sensitivity input for use with most guitars.
5. INPUT 2: Lower-sensitivity input (-6dB) for cleaner response with high-output and pre-amplified instruments. Input sensitivities are identical (full) when using both inputs simultaneously.

6. POWER CORD: Connect to a grounded outlet in accordance with the voltage and frequency specifications noted on the amplifier information label, which is located inside the cabinet on the left when viewing from the rear.
7. FUSE: Provides electrical over-current protection. With power disconnected, replace a blown fuse only with one of the type and rating specified on the safety label.
8. RECTIFIER TUBE: Single 5Y3GT rectifier tube converts AC voltage from the amplifier's power transformer into DC voltage required by the power (I) and preamp (K) tubes. It should be replaced only with an identical rectifier tube or one with a comparable rating and quality.
9. POWER TUBE: Single 6V6GTA power tube drives the power section of the amplifier. It should be replaced only with an identical power tube or one with a comparable rating and quality.
10. SPEAKER OUTPUT JACK: The '57 Custom Champ's single 4-ohm internal speaker connects here, or a 4-ohm external speaker enclosure (5 watts minimum) can be connected instead. In either case, to prevent damage to the amplifier, a minimum 4-ohm speaker load must be connected when power is on.
11. PREAMP TUBE: Single 12AY7 preamp tube drives the preamp section of the amplifier. It should be replaced only with an identical preamp tube or one with a comparable rating and quality, however, a 12AX7A preamp tube may be substituted in order to achieve more distortion at higher volume levels.
