Universal Cou nters are Safety Class I instruments, designed accord ing
to international safety standards. Thi s operating and service manual contains information,
cautions, and warn ings which must be fol lowed by the user to ensure safe operation and keep
the inst rument in safe cond ition.
1-14. INSTRUMENT IDENTIFICATION
1-15. Hewlett-Packa rd instru ments have a 2-sect ion, 10-character seria l number (OOOOAOOOOO),
which is located on the rear panel. The fo ur-d igit seria l prefix id e ntifies instrument changes. If
the serial prefix of your instrument d iffers from that listed on the title page of this manua l, there
are differences between this manual and your instrument. Instruments having higher seria l
prefixes are covered with a "Manua l Changes" sheet included with th is manual. If the change
sheet is missing, contact the nearest Hewleu-Packard Sales and Service Office listed at the back of
this manual. Instruments having a lower seria l prefix than that listed on the title page, are covered
in Section VII.
