ΠΠOverview
DVD-R155 Euro/Asia/Middle East Model use SAA7138 AV Decoder made by PHLIPS as a solution of several
function which is done by individual ICs in SAMSUNG 3rd Generation model.
This IC Located in top-side of MAIN Board, arround S5L3210 AV CODEC.
in DVD-R155, SAA7138 's role is as below.
1) Convert Analog Video signal(CVBS,S-Video,RGB) to ITU-R BT.656 Digital Video format and give them to
S5L3210 MPEG CODEC.
2) Converts SIF(Sound Intermediate Frequency) to Baseband Audio with A2/NICAM process, and give it to
HA118827 AV Multiplexer.
3) VPS/PDC detect.
4) Audio D/A Converter

As Summary, SAA7138 have
Video Decoder,
Audio D/A converter,
Audio A/D Converter,
A/2 NICAM Processor,
VPS/PDC processor -> in one package.
But in actually, DVD-R155 does not use Audio A/D converter of SAA7138,
but use internal ADC of S5L3210.
SAA7138 is contolled by S5L3210 via I2C Bus control.
