MAINTENANCE

wARNING:
When servicing, use only identical replacement
parts. Use of any other parts may create a hazard
or cause product damage.
wARNING:
Always wear eye protection marked to comply with
ANSI Z87.1. Failure to do so could result in objects
being thrown into your eyes, resulting in possible
serious injury.
wARNING:
Before inspecting, cleaning or servicing the ma-
chine, shut off engine, wait for all moving parts to
stop, and disconnect spark plug wire and move
it away from spark plug. Failure to follow these
instructions can result in serious personal injury or
property damage.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most
plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of
commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use. Use
clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc.
wARNING:
Do not at any time let brake fluids, gasoline,
petroleum-based products, penetrating oils, etc.,
come in contact with plastic parts. Chemicals can
damage, weaken or destroy plastic which may
result in serious personal injury.
Only the parts shown on the parts list are intended to be
repaired or replaced by the customer. All other parts should
be replaced at an authorized service center.
Before running the engine, perform the following pre-
operation steps:
 Check that all bolts, nuts, etc., are securely tightened.
 Make sure the air filter is clean.
 Check both the engine oil level and the fuel tank level;
refill as needed.
 Inspect the work area for hazards.
 If there is excessive noise or vibration, stop the unit
immediately.
CLEANING ThE AIR FILTER
See Figure 22.
A dirty air filter will cause starting difficulty, loss of
performance, and shorten the life span of the engine. Check
the air filter monthly. For best performance, replace the air
filter at least once a year.
 Push the tab on the air filter cover to open, then remove
the air filter cover.
 Lift the edge of the air filter carefully and pull it out.
 Wash the air filter with warm, soapy water.
 Rinse and squeeze to dry.
 Put small amount of motor oil (SAE 30 or SAE 10W30) on
the filter sponge. Squeeze out the excess oil then reinstall
the air filter.
NOTE: Make sure the filter is seated properly inside the
cover. Installing the filter incorrectly will allow dirt to enter
the engine, causing rapid engine wear.
 Reinstall the air filter cover.
ChANGING ThE ENGINE OIL
See Figure 23.
 Place a container under the pressure washer.
 Remove the oil drain plug and drain the old oil.
NOTE: Drain the oil while the engine is still warm but not
hot. Warm oil will drain quickly and more completely.
 Replace the oil drain plug.
 Replace the oil with new, clean oil. This engine will hold
12 oz. or .355 liters of oil (SAE 30 or SAE 10W30).
NOTE: Consult hazardous waste management guidelines in
your area for the proper way to dispose of used oil.
ChANGING ThE PUMP OIL
See Figure 24.
NOTE: The pump was filled with oil at the factory.
Fill the crankcase with special Cat Pumps oil per pump
specifications [3GCXT, 3DNX 8.5 oz (251ml)]. Do not run
pump without oil in crankcase. Change initial fill after 50
hours of run time. Thereafter, change oil every 3 months or
500 hour intervals.
To check oil:
 Place unit on a flat, level surface.
 The sight glass is located above the drain plug. There is
a red dot in the center of the glass.
 An oil level at the top of the red dot indicates oil is at
maximum level.
 An oil level at or below the bottom of the red dot indicates
oil is below desired level, and oil should be added.
To change oil:
 Place a container under the pressure washer.
 Loosen the pump top oil plug. Remove the oil drain plug
and drain the old oil.
