OPERATIONS
BEFORE BEGINNING OPERATIONS
1. Turn VOLUME knob fully to the left, to the MIN position.
2. Switch POWER on.
© If interconnected with the CD-tuner (FD-J7), this unit's power will
not turn on unless the CD-tuner's power is on.
3. Turn BALANCE knob to the center position.
4. Select your desired position with DIRECT switch.
¢ When it is on, you cannot switch sound character, make balance
adjustments, or use a component connected to the adaptor jack.
PLAYBACK PROCEDURES
5. Select the source with the input selector switch.
© To listen to the tuner or a CD, switch to
CD+- TUNER.
* To listen to a tape on cassette deck, select TAPE.
¢ If you want to listen to a record, select PHONO.
© For playback from a DAT deck, select DAT.
* Select LINE to enjoy playback from other audio components.
OPERATION (Play)
The Auto Function
When used in combination with the FD-J7 CD tuner and the T-J7
cassette deck, this unit's INPUT SELECTOR switches automatically
when the CDeTuner or deck are operated.
¢ If you press the CD tuner CD play key or the tuner. band key, it
switches to
CD» TUNER.
© If you press the cassette deck play key, it switches to TAPE.
6. Selecting SOUND CHARACTER
(Tone mode)
You can select any one of the eight available modes, MILD 1 to 3,
FLAT, HARD 1 to 4, to get just the sound you want. Sound character
divides the full range of frequencies into three frequency bands.
Changing the levels of these bands creates a variety of tonal effects.
MILD3
This
boosts
mid-range
frequencies
while
cutting low-range
frequencies.
Ideal when
listening to news programs.
MILD2
This boosts mid-range frequencies, making it
ideal for vocal sources.
MILD1
This has the same characteristics as MILD2
and MILD3, but by shifting the phase, it acts
as a wide mode to give you a sound with a
more spacious feel.

FLAT
This is the flat position which gives you sound
unaltered by equalization adjustments.
HARD1
By boosting low-range frequencies, this gives
you a rich bass sound even in rooms that tend
to absorb low frequency sounds. Like MILD1,
it acts as a wide mode.
HARD2
This strongly boosts low-range frequencies to
give you a powerful bass sound. Particularly
useful when you are using small speakers.
HARD3
This boosts both low-range and high-range
frequencies to give you a good sound even
when listening at low volume levels. Equivalent
to Loudness.
HARD4
The same
as HARD3,
but providing much
stronger boost characteristics. Equivalent to
Loudness.
7. Starting Play
Operate the desired component to start play.
8. Adjust volume level with VOLUME control.
NOTE:
/f MUTING is on, there will be no sound.
Make sure MUTING indicator is off.
RECORDING TO AUDIO TAPE
'Record to the cassette deck connected to the TAPE jacks.
(For cassette deck operation, refer to the deck's operation manual.)
1. Select the source to record from with the Input Selector switch.
(Select a source other than TAPE).
' 2. Operate the cassette deck to begin recording.
NOTE:

Recording via an adaptor connected to ADAPTOR jack is not possible.
